When I plan to travel inside the US, Las Vegas is one of my top 3 picks.  There's truly something for everyone!  

I normally stay on the Strip centrally located at places like Flamingo, Caesars or Harrah's.  My plan is to stay downtown on Fremont one of these times - Golden Nugget maybe?  At least one afternoon and evening of any trip is spent down on Fremont.  I absolutely love the "old" vibe.  

Think you can just walk from casino to casino in the heat of summer? "It's not that far, I can see the building."  Wrong! It's further than you think and there are more people than you expect.  You can go next door or 2 buildings at a time, but not much farther without needing to cool off for a bit.  I highly recommend planning Ubers/taxis appropriately or using the Monorail. Make sure you carry a bottle of water with you if you're going in the summer - the heat is brutal!  

If you're not a gambler, there are all kinds of shows from Cirque du Soleil to dancing to comedians and everything in between.  There's also the High Roller which is affordable and it's fun to see the whole city on a giant ferris wheel.  It's located down a private closed off street behind the Linq and Flamingo. There are several shopping boutiques and eating establishments available - most likely names you've heard and are familiar with.  You can catch a fountain show at the Bellagio for free. Treasure Island has a pirate/siren show that's also free.  If you're near the Venetian, you can always go sit and watch the gondola riders.
