Embrace Your Whimsy in Bermuda

Pink beaches, otherworldly coral reefs and rich history are just some of the draws of Bermuda. But there’s more to this balmy isle than that — in truth, there’s a whimsical streak to Bermuda that is jutting out like a half-buried piece of sand glass, waiting to be discovered. Here’s our selection of Bermuda gems that showcases a pinch of whimsy, a touch of fantasy and a wholly new way of enjoying a beach vacay.

The Bermuda Botanical Gardens promise a day of enchanting greenery.

Frolic through the Bermuda Botanical Gardens

Just a few quick minutes north of Hamilton, this 36-acre park is a sprawling (yet meticulously kept!) oasis on an already paradise-like island. Endemic plants — think tall Bermuda cedars and hearty palmetto trees — stand side by side with a who’s who of tropical flora; there are even mighty bayans from India. There’s a Japanese Zen garden, English gardens and a sensory garden for the blind, chock full of fragrant flowers. The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art also resides within the garden’s grounds, providing a choice excursion to this already enchanting outing. If the weather is simply too good to go inside, there are plenty of shady benches and pleasant knolls that’d be perfect for a picnic.

The Crystal Caves are a truly otherworldly sight.

Explore the Crystal and Fantasy Caves

The Crystal Cave sits some 120 feet below ground, an otherworldly sight worthy of an afternoon. This subterranean wonder is estimated to be around a million years old — yet was only discovered in the early 1900s. Pristine stalagmites and stalactites dating back to the Ice Age stretch across this cavern, with a mesmerizing underground lake taking center stage. Peer down into its crystal-clear waters from atop the pontoon bridge and try not to let a shiver run down your spine; staring back at you is the ethereal reflection of the stalactites above superimposed on top of the watery realm below. Next door to Crystal Caves is its proverbial little sister, the Fantasy Caves. The draw is similar — stalactites, stalagmites, an underwater lake — but the lake is deeper, and eons-old mineral deposits cling to the side of the cave walls like frozen waterfalls.

Glassblowing is thrilling (and fulfilling) creative outlet.

Try Your Hand at Glass Blowing

Just because you’re away from home doesn’t mean you can’t flex your creative muscle: Studio 8 is the go-to if you wish to head home with your own hand-crafted souvenir. This glass-fusion studio and school located within the Clocktower Mall is the perfect place to make your very own vacay memento. Learn how to create a sun catcher from hand-blown glass pieces, or fashion a floating glass locket filled with some of Bermuda’s beautiful pink sand. If you’d simply rather admire, head across the street and watch the local artisans at work at Dockyard Glassworks.

An underwater sea walk is an ideal way to get acquainted with the fishes.

Stroll the Seabed with Hartley’s Undersea Walk

The dive sites of Bermuda are legendary, but scuba certification has long been a hurdle for most — meaning the closest you could get was snorkeling near the water’s surface, far above. Not so with Hartley’s Undersea Walk: by donning a heavy helmet equipped with a hose piping a constant supply of fresh air, you can stroll the seabed floor and get acquainted with any and all the curious fish that come to say hello (they’ve learned to associate visitors with treats, so they’re remarkably friendly).

An ideal way to experience all of the above and everything else Bermuda has to offer is on a trip with Celebrity Cruises. You have plenty of time to experience the isles, thanks to itineraries with multiple overnights in port — but you’ll also enjoy sailing onboard Celebrity, thanks to their contemporary, design-led ships. Our agents know Celebrity well, so we can help you choose, plan and book your cruise vacation to perfection.
