Examine treasures of the ancient world
Ancient Ethiopia
The star attraction of the Ethiopia Pavilion is a replica of the oldest human fossil ever discovered. Lucy, the 3.2-million-year-old skeleton, was discovered in northeastern Ethiopia in 1974 and was locally named “Dinknesh” meaning “you are amazing” in Amharic. Unearthing Lucy disrupted the understanding of human evolution and solidified the country’s reputation of being the “cradle of humanity.”
Italian Sculpture
“Beauty connects people” is the theme of the Italy pavilion which displays a 3D replica of Michelangelo’s David statue. This unique artwork combines sophisticated technology with old-world technique. The life-sized replica was produced by one of the world’s largest 3D printers and covered in marble powder applied by artisans in Florence.
Trace the influence of Arabic on world languages
Syrian Influences
Visitors to the Syria Pavilion will be able to see a replica of the Ugaritic alphabet, believed to be the world’s first alphabet, dating back to 1,400 BC. The exhibit emphasizes the influence of the Arabic language and how words of Arabic origin are now present in other global languages. An engaging interactive experience introduces visitors to the region’s musical history which includes mankind's oldest notation, written more than 3,500 years ago.
