Cruising with Purpose & Confidence
Cruise with Purpose & Confidence on Holland America Line
The “Cruise with Purpose” program aims to enlighten souls and reduce carbon footprints, one destination at a time. Examples of shore excursions include discovering Alaska’s whales in Juneau, as adventurous guests board a research vessel for a closer look into the habitats of humpback whales. Or planting a tree as part of Iceland’s reforestation program, after circling the active Hengill Volcano at Reykjavik. In Brisbane, Australia, a heartwarming visit to a koala sanctuary is on the itinerary. Holland America Line has received environmental honors such as Port Metro Vancouver’s EcoAction Blue Circle Award and the Port of Seattle’s Green Gateway Award for commitment to sustainability.

The honors don’t stop there. Recently, the cruise line was named Top Alaska Cruise line in the 2020 AFAR Traveler Awards — the third time winning in the awards’ five-year existence! Voters spoke of the immersive elements of a Holland America Line cruise. For instance, its Alaska cruises boast more visits than other lines to Glacier Bay National Park, a stunning highlight of Alaska’s Inside Passage and one of the largest international protected areas in the world. The nature spotting opportunities on board are unparalleled as well — wide open decks for panoramic views and day-long Tundra Tours are just a few of the attractions that keep travelers coming back to Holland America Line.
Rampestreken Viewpoint in Norway
The nearly 6,500 unique excursions offered are consistently recognized —the discerning readers of Porthole Cruise Magazine acknowledged the cruise line for having the best shore excursions in its 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards (just one of four awards Holland took home). Whether it’s making authentic Italian pizza in Naples, going zip-lining in Costa Rica or taking salsa lessons in Havana, these immersive, always optional experiences leave travelers feeling deeply connected to the places they visit. An exclusive partnership with FOOD & WINE magazine has elevated the culinary-themed shore excursions. Best of all, due to Holland’s generous new booking policy, these excursions are safe to book in uncertain times.
Frequent travelers know there are few things more frustrating than having to cancel travel plans and not getting a refund. Luckily, there’s no reason to worry when booking a 2021 cruise on Holland America Line. The cruise line has temporarily adjusted its cancellation policy to make it easier for guests to cancel or change plans — now, for any cruises booked by January 31, 2021, you can cancel for any reason up to 30 days before departure and automatically receive a Future Cruise Credit in the amount of non-refundable fees collected by Holland America Line (the remainder will be refunded to you). With all the stressors this year has provided, refund policies shouldn’t be one of them! Get excited to plan an unforgettable, purpose-filled future adventure, secure in the fact that Holland has your back.
