Planning Ahead for Events in California

Sports fans will find California taking up an increasing amount of real estate in their heads (no, the Warriors aren’t good again). A slew of world-class competitions are slated to be held in the Golden State — here’s a primer of what to expect, look forward to, or perhaps even plan for.

World Cup 2026

California is set to host 14 games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, giving fans the world over the perfect reason to jet over for a Golden State adventure. The venues are the two metropolitan pillars of the state: Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium and San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium. Whichever venue you land at (or, perhaps this is the perfect excuse to road trip between the two?), expect to find world-class food, vibrant neighborhoods and unforgettable experiences orbiting the action.

Super Bowl 2027

In 2027, the biggest game returns to the biggest stage: Super Bowl LXI will take place at SoFi Stadium for a second time this decade, promising a spectacle of gridiron glory and halftime wonder. The difference between seeing it on TV and being a part of it is a chasm; they might as well be two different events. In place of Super Bowl commercials, you’ll revel in the in-person atmosphere. The scale of the venue is otherworldly — sitting there, experiencing the roar of the crowd in response to an interception or touchdown is downright electrifying.

Olympic Games 2028

What introduction is even needed for the Olympic Games? They’ve been synonymous with the friendly spirit of competition and human achievement since ancient Greece. As the first Summer Olympic Games to be held in the United States in over three decades, the anticipation is palpable; a static charge that can be felt in the air. More than 40 sports will be showcased at 800-plus events, with no new permanent venues being built — the Games will make use of Southern California’s vast landscape and existing facilities. While many venues are still being finalized, several iconic L.A.-area stadiums and arenas are already spoken for, such as:

  • Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
  • SoFi Stadium
  • L.A. Live
  • Dodger Stadium
  • Rose Bowl Stadium
  • Crypto.com Arena
  • Universal Studios Hollywood
  • The Fairplex in Pomona
  • Santa Anita Park in Arcadia
  • Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area
