My passion for all things travel began at a very young age but really took off during my six months of living in Florence during college. This was my first sense of being on my own in another country and exploring the cities and culture the way I wanted to. From the coastal towns of Cinque Terre to the island of Capri and the large cosmopolitan cities in between, Italy is an old favourite and a second home to me. Since my return, I have cultivated a deep love and appreciation for solo travel, self-driving itineraries and exploring new places as well as old favourites.
My first solo trip was a huge 5,000 mile solo road trip across the US. I drove out to California where I drove down the Pacific Coastal Highway, camped in Big Sur and continued down to LA before exploring and hiking through the Grand Canyon and making my way to New Orleans. From here I drove up through Nashville and back home to the Windy City. This two-week journey only intensified my love for road trips, solo travel and exploring more of the US.
I decided to take my next solo trip a little further away, to the UK. I began exploring the UNESCO World Heritage city, Edinburgh, which soon became one of my favourite cities. I then rented a car and explored and hiked my way through the highlands of Scotland before driving down through the Lake District to The Cotswolds and Oxford and ending in London. This was of course inspired by my love of the mountains and reading historic novels, such as Outlander. I always enjoy seeing the locations that inspired so many of my favourite novels and TV shows and the UK is filled to the brim with them!
My latest solo adventure, trekking and volunteering in Nepal has been my longest and most out of this world adventure yet! Trekking the Poon Hill trek up to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 meters) and living in a remote village in the Annapurna region gave me new perspective, outlook and opened my horizon to a different kind of 'adventure travel'.
For me, a solo adventure gives you the opportunity to explore new cities and cultures on your own terms, and getting a rental car and driving yourself allows you to see the countryside visit places you would not have been able to on train or by plane. Solo travel isn't for everyone, but if you are interested in a solo itinerary, I can give you tips, ideas, and even restaurant recommendations to make this solo trip your best yet!
Of course these are just a few of my latest adventures, I've had quite a few girls trips around Europe with some of my best friends.
