HISTORY, FOODIE, EUROPE TRIPS CREATED JUST FOR YOU
Hello, my name is Alicia! Let me introduce myself.
Every day I delight in creating custom itineraries designed around a person’s passions. The favorite part of my job is learning about my client’s desires, hopes, and needs, then finding the perfect hotels, transportation, activities, foodie experiences and unique components that elevate a trip beyond normal into something magical. I curate and plan with painstaking attention to detail and I deliver exceptional, seamless and personalized itineraries where you get precisely what you want and when you want it.
MY BOOKCASE: What a person has on their bookcase says a lot about them. My bookcases are filled every single Rick Steves book so I can reference all the ins and outs of traveling Europe Through the Back Door. There are books about the history of food and drink like Food Journeys of a Lifetime and The World of Whiskey. I make sure I always have current information about worldwide luxurious rail journeys, river cruises and canal barging like Africa’s Blue Train, the Alouette Barge on the Canal Du Midi and the Magnificent Mekong Viking River Cruise. Every year I purchase the updated Unofficial Guide to Disney along with The Disney Food Blog’s Walt Disney World Dining (because, as the author says, “Food IS a theme park”). And I subscribe to the National Geographic HISTORY magazine so that when I visit cathedrals, castles, monuments, and museums they come alive. These publications tell you what I am interested in and what I excel at. I love creating bespoke trips around history, food & beverages, independent European travel, unique transportation, and Disney vacations.
INDEPENDENT EUROPEAN TRAVEL: I worked for years as a European Destination Specialist, creating itineraries for Travel Agents who then pass them on to their clients. Now, I work directly with clients and create personalized itineraries based on my years of travel to Europe, studying the history & culture of the many countries, and learning what makes a trip extraordinary.
HISTORY: Walking through the Roman Forum can either be a boring experience of looking at a bunch of rubble or, with a bit of pre-trip reading, it can transform into a vibrant area where you can imagine Senators walking alongside Julius Caesar. Or perhaps you already know you want to walk in the footsteps of King Henry VIII and in this case, I would recommend you stay at Thornbury Castle. I specialize in crafting trips that dive into a person’s heritage (hey look, this is the village my great-grandmother was born in), suggest opportunities to stay at 800 year old castles (Ashford Castle is a step back in time), list places where you can sample iconic food & drink (the National Jenever Museum in the Netherlands is a must), or go on a ghost walk where you learn about an area's macabre history (like a Jack the Ripper Walking Tour).
CULINARY DISCOVERIES: Food is memorable, and memories are the best travel souvenirs you can bring home. When people come home from a vacation often their favorite stories are about restaurants, meals, snacks and drinks. Bratwurst in Germany, wine in California, beignets in New Orleans, ouzo in Greece. All around the world, destinations are famous for their culinary items and learning about a culture through the food and drink is an intimate experience worth seeking out.
UNIQUE TRANSPORTATION: There is something enchanting about traveling the way our ancestors did. You can experience the mystery of the Orient Express and travel back in time to a dignified, glamorous era. Or gently float down the French Canal de Bourgogne in the exquisite Fleur de Lys hotel barge and when you stumble across some local villagers playing a game of boules you can join in. Or shake off the cold with a mug of glühwein while wandering around the Christmas market in the medieval town where your Rhine river cruise is docked. These journeys are for romantics, historians and those looking for an otherworldly experience. A transcendent experience of which the memories will last a lifetime.
DISNEY: And now we come to the outlier. Strange right? Europe, Gastronomy, History, Unique Transportation and then there is Disney. It is an unexplained passion which takes me to the parks at least once a year. I have been to Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris dozens of times and I can walk around each place blindfolded. I know the best hotel rooms, the top restaurants, special activities, favorite festivals, when to go and what to see. Maybe it is the escape from reality, a timeless and magical adventure that I crave. This is what I provide to my clients.
I am devoted to details and look for the unique and the exceptional. The itineraries I create of my clients are as individual as they are. I am here to get to know you, to discover what will enchant you and create a trip that exceeds all expectation. If you are in my area, I would love to get together over a glass of wine and talk about your travel dreams.
