Experienced Traveler here to help with the Details
La Rinconada, Bolivia. A truly lovely surprise.
Where to next? That is a question I find myself asking often. As a kid I would pour over my parent’s National Geographics and any brochure or guide book I could get my hands on so I could compile that long list of places I just had to see for myself. I remember being particularly obsessed with a horse trek across Scotland.
I have had the good fortune to be able to explore a good many places, Scotland included, and often I find the planning to be almost as enjoyable as the travel itself. It just seemed natural for me to take that experience and that love of planning and organizing and create Great Blue Travel. I chose the name Great Blue as it conjures thoughts of the sky, and water and vastness of the the earth, and reminds me of the herons I encounter when I am enjoying time outdoors, always by the waterside or on their way from one fabulous place to another.
Enthusiasm for travel is one thing, but experience is necessary to see that all aspects of a journey fit together seamlessly. Despite the tight budget of a twenty-something I had visited nine different European countries, Morocco, Mexico, Belize, Bolivia and Peru, as well as travelled extensively throughout the United States before I took a job as a travel agent with Travelguard. I worked with them for several years as a leisure, corporate and emergency agent. Having to think quickly and creatively while working with travelers in a wide variety of situations was my favorite aspect of the job.
I made the decision to leave Travelguard and my husband and I were finally able to take the road trip we had been planning for sometime. We packed our belongings and our two dogs into our Pleasure Way camper van and set off for a year long journey around North America. Having almost no time constraints allowed us to explore a great number of places in depth. I could never pick a favorite, getting surprised by a phosphorescent bay in Baja, Mexico, discovering the hot springs of the Eastern Sierras, fishing the bluest lake I have ever in the Yukon or two weeks of eating amazing things in San Francisco are just a tiny slice of what the world had to offer us.
More recently, my travels have been family focused and budget-savvy, snorkeling and crashing in the waves on the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya, the Florida Gulf Coast and Grand Cayman, or driving across California so we can show the kids just how amazing it all is. Lucky for me there were the girl’s getaways to Palm Springs, New Orleans and Las Vegas as well. Just recently we are headed to Bolivia with grandparents, cousins, uncles, the whole shebang. We’ve enjoyed Carnaval celebrations, family reunions, and couple amazing national parks. It was an unforgettable trip. I am ready to go back already and want to talk all my friends into going there.
Even though sometimes I wish I could be, I am not travelling all the time! Right now I am working toward the goal of becoming a Certified Leisure Travel Specialist. I am thrilled to be learning the best way to take my experience and use it to help others have unforgettable experiences of their own. My goal is to become a Certified Group Travel Specialist as well, because what could be better than helping people get together through the magic of travel. If you’re looking for experience, dedication to detail and a commitment to your next trip beyond what the internet can provide, then please drop me a note or give me a ring. Great Blue Travel can get you right where you want to be.
