Mole National Park - Ghana
I'm so excited to share my recent trip to Ghana with you. While I've been to Ghana several times, I've never traveled to the Northern Region. This time I made a special trip to Mole National Park to enjoy some time with the elephants!
After a short 1 hour flight from Accra to Tamale, and then a 2-hour drive to Mole I arrived at Zaina Lodge for a blissful two-night stay in one of their luxury tents. Each tent has a porch that overlooks the park and there's a large watering hole just beyond the hotel that makes for great viewing when the elephants and antelopes come to drink and stay cool during the hot Ghana days. The rooms are furnished beautifully with queen size beds, desk and television. The bathroom area is also fully stocked with amenities and even includes both an indoor and outdoor shower.
There are two safari's per day. One in the early morning and one in the afternoon. I opted for a early morning driving safari. As soon as I met the guide and driver in the front of the hotel we were greeted by an elephant drinking from the hotel water fountain! It was a great way to start the morning. We then drove along the park path and saw antelope, warthogs, and baboons enjoying their natural habitat. Our guide, Jacob, was very knowledgeable and taught us about some of the important plants and trees in the park. After a short walk we boarded the van and went to a nice gazebo for a break. They made coffee and had packed breakfast sandwiches for us all. While enjoying our coffee we could watch an elephant and crocodile enjoying a nearby watering hole.
Later in the day, I laid out by the infinity pool, swam a bit and drank a Long Island Iced Tea. I really enjoyed my break from the hustle and bustle of Accra and will definitely make my way back to Zaina Lodge again soon!
