Andrea's Trip to Perth & Melbourne, Australia

As an Australia Travel Specialist, I visit Australia every 2 years! This year, it was time to visit Western Australia and Southern Australia. I flew from Los Angeles to Sydney on Delta Airlines to Sydney and then onto Perth ( that's like flying from Miami to LA) for a total of 25 hours to get to Perth from Miami. If you can afford to fly Premium Class it is well worth it!

As it was my first time to Perth, I soaked up all the destination had to offer!

Started off with site seeing around the city - saw all the major attractions. First stop was at Rott Nest Island, accessible only by ferry. This island is the home to the Quokkas. The island is very popular among locals for a day trip.

Spend the evening at the Sandalford Winery for an event, sampling their wines and amazing cuisines prepared by their chefs.

Had the chance to visit City Beach for another event - great atmosphere and amazing food. Food is amazing anywhere you go in Australia!

I flew to Melbourne after spending 5 days in Perth, this was the highlight of my trip as I get to see the Koalas and the Penguins! But first had to go see world's famous AC DC Lane for some world class graffiti, can I say some amazing art, a must see if you visit Melbourne. The trams that runs within the city are free so I hop and off the tram to get around thee city of Melbourne.

A great way to see the city of Melbourne from above is from the Melbourne Star Observatory Wheel ( it's one of 4 largest observatory wheels in the world). I had bites and a glass of wine on this 30 minute ride overlooking the city of Melbourne.

I am one to frown upon large outdoor shopping area but the Queen Victoria Market has great indoor and outside shopping and it did not disappoints, I found lots of souvenirs at great prices to take home for my family!

Most popular city has a high tower and so does Melbourne - took the time to check out the Eureka Skydeck tower from its 88th Floor to see the city. If you are afraid of heights this may not be a tour for you!!

Most cities has clubs on every floor that plays different type of music, well the Curtin House has different floors with a different restaurant on every floor. I had lunch at Cookie on the 1st Floor follow by some refreshment on the roof top bar listening to the sound of reggae music!

Although seeing the sites / attractions are amazing, had to stop in at the Victoria National Gallery to check out Kaws an artist phenomenal work on display at the gallery.

After exploring the city of Melbourne, decide to head south to explore the penguins at Phillips Island. I checked in, had dinner and waited for the penguins to arrive at dusk and watch these amazing fellows rushed to their burrows as they arrive from the ocean. I learned you cannot photograph the penguins as the flash of lights from the camera will blind them, it is an experience I will cherish.

A visit to Australia will not be complete without a visit to a winery and so I visited 4 wineries and one brewery on this trip! One unique winery I visited had a sculpture park so you can have a sip while you stroll through the sculpture park.

On my way to the 12 Apostles, made a few stop along the way at Portsea, its one of the richest cities in all of Australia. The view from the look out point was amazing!

Another amazing stop along the away was Loch Ard Gorge, some amazing and breathtaking, you just have to stop and really take in the beautiful scenery.

And then came the 12 Apostles via the Great Ocean Road, it was a long ride to get there but was well worth it. Even though it was raining when I got there, it was well worth seeing - so beautiful.

Besides all of the above, I visit and experience the world's largest hot spring in the southern hemisphere at the Peninsula Hot Springs.

I took photos with a Koala at the Moonlit Sanctuary and saw other unique animals like a the dingo and also get to feed a wallaby!

A great surprise for me was my visit to Sovereign Hills, it a old history site that dates back to the 1500's and you can pan for gold, watch the gold pour experience, decorate your own candle, make your own lemon drops and more! This was a surprise as I did not know I would like this experience so I was very happy I experience it.

This is an overview of my experience visiting Perth and Melbourne, Australia. I have also stayed in Sydney, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast.

Catch you later mate!
