Cruising the Islands of Fiji
I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful destination of Fiji.
Not only did I stay on Sonaisali Island, I cruised the islands on a Captain Cook cruise. I highly recommend it as a way to see many of the islands of Fiji.
From snorkeling the beautiful ocean waters, seeing the vibrant blue starfish, to visiting a village and having a meeting with a village Chief my week in Fiji was mind blowing!
Our visit at the village included a Fijian Lovo which is a feast cooked in the earth. We had chicken, fish and pork all tightly wrapped in a weave of palm leaves along with a huge selection of side dishes. Afterwards, we listened to traditional music and participated in their dance. Included in their celebration is the drinking of kava which is a social drink in Fiji. In my opinion, it tasted like mud and it resulted in a numbing feeling to my lips.
I made purchases from the "Mama's" selling their wares on a couple islands, lounged on the snow white sands of a few uninhabited islands and snorkeled in the crystal clear waters.
One of our highlights was visiting a local school on one of the islands. They serenaded us with a few traditional songs and we gifted them with school supplies that we had brought from home.
Fiji is absolutely a destination to put on your bucket list. Whether you're a honeymooner, a family looking for a kid-friendly getaway, or a hard-core diver seeking some of the finest coral reefs in the world, Fiji has something for everyone. From family fun, to romantic escapes, adventure tours and luxury private charters, Fiji is the answer.
