LifeStraw … the perfect item to pack!

Feel guilty about buying quantities of plastic bottles filled with (hopefully) purified water on vacation? Have you seen images of beautiful destinations littered with discarded plastics? There is a solution and I’ve tested it! It’s called the LifeStraw.

The LifeStraw is designed to be used by one person. It comes in a straw form or what I carry is the LifeStraw Go Water Bottle (22 oz. ). Each filters a maximum of 4000 Liters of water. That’s enough to last an average person at least 3 years.

It removes waterborne bacteria, parasites, chemicals and heavy metals including lead. They were originally developed for people living in developing destinations and for distribution during humanitarian crisis. It is now used as a tool for survivalists and emergency preparation kits. I use mine for foreign travel. NO MORE PLASTIC BOTTLES!

Must admit I was a little nervous to test this … “Don’t drink the water” has resonated throughout travel advice forever. Though proven in waters drawn from lakes and rivers in India, Africa and around the globe I tested mine out in Ecuador, Egypt, Costa Rica and Jordan. I DRANK THE WATER!!! So did other members of my family. We are proud to say we used these throughout our travels and didn’t purchase any plastics for water. They pacified our consciences concerning our environmental blueprint and saved money.

It surprised us how many seasoned travelers haven’t caught on to this product yet. Spread the word. It’s an easy convenient product to use. And it’s the right thing to do.
