Selfie in Greece!

Greece is a magical country, I was very lucky to have the opportunity to travel with my daughter as she completed her study abroad program in Athens. We spent several days in Athens and were able to walk to several archaeological sites that are right by our hotel. We were able to see one of the oldest track stadiums that the ancient Greeks used in their first Olympics. Now the high school students have their running tournaments on this track. We really enjoyed the Acropolis as the sun was setting! We were also able to see it from our hotel's roof top terrace. What an amazing site! We enjoyed exploring the Acropolis Museum which had many interesting artifacts, displays and informative movies. We were able to wander around this tourist friendly area that had many shops to sample Greek life. There were also many restaurants offering various cuisines. We found farmer's stands that offered fresh picked strawberries and others offering fresh roasted nuts. One day we went on a tour to see Poseidon's Temple by the sea. What a view! We were a short drive from the ports where the ferries and the cruise ships dock. This is an amazing city that can be seen by adding a few days at the beginning or end of a vacation.

After exploring Athens we ventured out to one of the islands, Santorini. We traveled from the lighthouse on the south point to the city of Oia on the northern tip of the island which offers beautiful views of the sunset. Along the way we stopped at Akrotiri which is a prehistoric village buried by a volcano and had a delicious lunch by a black sand beach. The tour took us to a great view of the island from the highest peak of the island, also pausing to see the Red Sand Beach and we enjoyed a wine tasting at a local vineyard! We had spectacular sunsets right off our balcony at our hotel located on the edge of Thira. My daughter and I joked about all the stairs, steps and slopes on Santorini!
