PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

My career (story) in the Travel Industry began in 2016 as a personal favor to a close dear friend of mine.  Here's my story:

A close friend of mine has a Travel group that has been traveling to different destinations annually for a number years. But during this particular time, She was unable to arrange her trip due to some illnesses in her family. She asked me if I could help her by calling the airline to inquiry about flight tickets for her group of 65 people. At this time I had no experience in the Travel Industry and really had never thought of exploring the industry at all. As I had been in the medical profession for over 20 years. But she was a close friend of mine and I was willing to help her the best I could. After making several phone calls to the various Airlines I was unsuccessful in getting Airline tickets to the destination of her choice because of the size of her group. She was devastated as it looked as though she was would have to cancel her trip because of family illnesses she simply didn't have time to look for another destination. So I suggested a destination ( LOS CABOS  SAN LUCAS, MEXICO ) for to think about. She was hesitate at first, but she told me if I would get the information for her then she would consider it. So I researched the location and gave her the information to review. She loved the information I gave her and decided to present the information to her group. She invited me to her travel meeting to go over the trip with her group. I was so nervous as I had no ideal what I was talking about. I only knew what I had researched on the Internet and what I had learned through phone calls to the different Hotels. I did the presentation and the group like it and was excited about going to CABO!  At that point my friend made me her Travel Group Coordinator.. The trip was successful and I was able to book 65 people to Cabos and back with no problems.. Thus beginning my career in the Travel Industry. The next year I accompanied the group and we (a group of 85) traveled to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It was while planning the Punta Cana Trip I realized that I really enjoyed planning and organizing travel for others. I looked into formal education and enrolled in Ashworth College Travel Agent Program. I graduated in December 2017 with Honors. After completing the program I join with KHM TRAVEL GROUP and TRAVEL LEADERS NETWORK and it has been truly an amazing experience. I officially opened Myers Worldwide Travel Agency in August 2017.  Since that time I have obtained my CLIA accreditation, I graduated from Disney College as a Certified Disney Vacation Specialist. I've also obtained certification as an ORLANDO Vacation Specialist, IBEROSTAR SPECIALIST, AND LAS VEGAS Treasure Island Specialist. I am currently working other brand certifications as well.  I have also booked several cruises through Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and numerous land and air booking to destinations such as LAS VEGAS, HAWAII, USA MAINLAND STATES,  the Caribbean AND Mexico. I am also booking vacations to BRAZIL- RIO DE JANERIO -CARNIVAL  AND various other International Locations.  Yes, I am still the coordinator for my friends travel group  and this year in June of  2018 she will celebrate  20 years of travel around the world.  Her group of now 100 people will travel to Montego Bay, Jamaica as that is where her group story began. I am grateful to her for trusting me to plan a trip for such a large group with no experience at the time. It was that moment that led to me this career.
