I may live in California now, but Oahu will always be home - I grew up in Honolulu and visit often to see family. Each trip is an opportunity to discover something new or return to favorite spots. Hiking is one of my favorite ways to explore Oahu. The island’s trails wind through volcanic craters, lush rainforests, and rugged mountains, offering panoramic views at every turn. Diamond Head, for example, is an extinct volcano that’s both a symbol of Hawaii’s natural beauty and a window into its history, with World War II bunkers still standing along the trail.  

Another example of history on Oahu is at Pearl Harbor. Here, you can reflect on pivotal moments in World War II, from the Arizona Memorial marking the start of U.S. involvement to the USS Missouri, where the war officially ended. Visiting these landmarks is a deeply moving experience that connects you to a significant piece of global history. 

Oahu’s culture is just as captivating as its history. The island’s diverse communities celebrate their traditions year-round, making every visit a chance to experience something unique. During Chinese New Year, the colorful Lion Dances and red envelope customs fill neighborhoods with excitement and joy. From food festivals to hula performances, Oahu’s cultural events invite you to immerse yourself in its vibrant heritage.
