Touring Windmills at Unesco Kinderdijk World Heritage Site
One day we visited the charming town of Delft and toured the Royal Delft Factory. It was a fascinating tour, and there was time to browse the gift shop for beautiful Delftware pieces. After returning to the ship for lunch, we headed out again in the afternoon to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Kinderdijk windmills. Our guide did a wonderful job explaining the history of the windmills, why they were used, and why fewer than 1,000 remain in the Netherlands today. We also met another guide who showed us how the windmills work and even took us inside one. It was incredible to learn that entire families once lived inside these historic windmills.
