Turquoise lagoon. Mount Otemanu in the background. An overwater bungalow with the water right under your feet. That's the dream and it's real, but it's not one size fits all.Some resorts sit on the main island near Matira Beach. Others are out on a private motu, a boat ride away. The views, the privacy, the dining, even the transfer costs  they're all different. Book the wrong one and you find out on day one, standing in a room that isn't what you pictured, thousands of dollars in.

 WHAT I ACTUALLY HELP YOU FIGURE OUT

• Which resort fits how you want the trip to feel: Four Seasons, St. Regis, Conrad Bora Bora Nui, Westin, InterContinental. Some are about total privacy and a straight-on view of Mount Otemanu. Others are better for families, easier for snorkeling, or being closer to the main island.
• Overwater bungalow, beach villa, or land suite: water depth, sunset vs. mountain view, plunge pools, how private it really is.
• The experiences worth doing: private lagoon tours, snorkeling with rays and reef sharks, a sunset cruise, a helicopter pass over the lagoon.
• Getting there without the headache: flights into Papeete, the short hop to Bora Bora, and the boat transfer that follows. Timing this wrong means wasted hours.
• Tahiti and Moorea add-ons:  if you want the fuller French Polynesia trip, I'll tell you if an 8-12 night version makes sense for you.

WHY NOT JUST BOOK IT YOURSELF?

You can. But Bora Bora is expensive, and the mistakes are expensive too — the wrong room location, a transfer you didn't need, a meal plan that doesn't match how you actually want to eat, an island itinerary that leaves you rushed instead of relaxed. A FEW HONEST ANSWERS, UPFRONT:

BEST TIME TO GO?  The best time to visit Bora Bora is from May through October, when the weather is generally warm, dry, and less humid. April and November offer fewer crowds and often better value.

How long should you stay? Four to six nights works for most people. Combining with Tahiti or Moorea stretches that to 8-12 nights for a fuller trip.

IS AN OVERWATER BUNGALOW WORTH IT? Usually, yes especially for a honeymoon or anniversary. However, the right bungalow matters. Privacy, lagoon access, views, location, and price vary significantly by resort.
