About Me

Planning your first Japan trip can feel overwhelming: train tickets, hotel rooms, activities, and a long wish list. As your Japan travel advisor, I help you choose a route, compare costs, and book a trip with time to enjoy it.

Picture Your Japan Trip

Walk through a Kyoto temple garden, ride the bullet train and taste Osaka's street food. In Tokyo, browse vintage shops, explore older neighborhoods, and watch the city light up after dark.

Japan Tours and Experiences

- teamLab: Explore the immersive digital art at teamLab Borderless or teamLab Planets in Tokyo.

- Street kart tours: Drive Tokyo streets in a go-kart. For U.S. drivers, a valid license and the correct International Driving Permit are required.

- Sumo wrestling: See a tournament when dates align, or explore a guided practice visit, subject to availability.

I'll check reservations and participation requirements, then work your chosen activities into the route.

Hotels With Familiar Comforts

I focus on hotels with Western-style beds, private bathrooms and the comforts American travelers expect. We'll compare room size, breakfast options and location.

For families, I check bed arrangements and room occupancy before recommending a hotel. A convenient location makes it easier to rest between outings.

Tokyo, Kyoto and Beyond

- Tokyo: Cross Shibuya beneath giant video screens, browse Shimokitazawa's vintage shops and take in the skyline from SHIBUYA SKY. Balance the bright lights with Asakusa's older streets and time to explore.

- Kyoto: Walk beneath Fushimi Inari's red shrine gates, explore Arashiyama's bamboo paths and wander Gion's historic streets. We'll spread the sights across your stay, so you have time to enjoy them.

- Nara Day Trip: Watch deer roam the park, visit grand temples and slow down along garden paths. It's a change of pace from the busy city streets.

- Hakone: Cruise Lake Ashi, ride a ropeway above the mountains and unwind in a hot spring. On a clear day, Mount Fuji adds the backdrop you've been hoping to photograph.

- Hiroshima and Miyajima: Take time for Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, then explore Miyajima's waterfront and shrine. At high tide, its red torii gate appears to float above the water.

We can add Osaka for food and nightlife. Returning visitors can consider Kanazawa, Takayama, Hokkaido or Okinawa.

Travel With Confidence

It's easy to pack too much into a first Japan trip. I'll suggest a pace that leaves room for jet lag, exploring and time to enjoy each place.

A rail pass doesn't always save money. I'll compare passes with individual tickets and discuss luggage forwarding between hotels.

What I Handle

- Routes with realistic travel times.

- Hotel comparisons, including room size and beds.

- Flights, rail and transfers, with costs explained.

- Guides, tours, and advance ticket arrangements.

- Bookings, payment dates, and trip preparation.

How It Works

1. We discuss your dates, budget and must-see places.

2. I recommend a route and explain hotel options.

3. You choose, and I coordinate booking and preparation.

Japan Travel FAQ

Does using a Japan travel advisor cost extra?

- Your first Video Appt planning call is free. I'll explain any custom planning fee before you commit.

How many days do I need for a first Japan trip?

- I suggest 10–14 days for Tokyo, Kyoto and another stop or two. With a week, focus on fewer places.

When should I visit Japan?

- Spring and fall are popular for blossoms and autumn colors. Timing varies by region and year; summer can bring heat, rain and typhoon disruptions.

Is the Japan Rail Pass worth it?

- It depends on your route. I'll compare passes with individual tickets before recommending either.

Another fabulous trip!

Rey has booked several domestic and international trips for me over the years. Each time the experience was fantastic. Rey is not only a knowledgeable and experienced travel agent, he is patient with groups and always provides stellar customer service. The resorts are always fabulous and his recommendations on what to do when we arrive at our destinations make my vacations more enjoyable. I’ve counted on Rey to book fabulous vacations for over 10 years and he always delivers the best. I’ve always enjoyed the individual attention and care Rey provides his clients. He understands the apprehension that comes along with trying new places and is thorough and accommodating as a result. He’s also great at making suggestions on future vacations and I’ve never been disappointed when I follow his suggestions. Rey will remain my travel confidante for many years to come. He’s the best, hands down!
