Michael Akana is one of the few travel agents certified by the Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA) as an Elite Cruise Counseller Scholar (ECCS) the highest level of certification available from CLIA.  In addition Michael is certified as an Elite Cruise Counseller (ECC),  Master Cruise Counseller (MCC) and Accredited Cruise Counseller (ACC).  He was one of CLIA’s first Luxury Cruise Specialist (LCS).  Michael is a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC), a Hawaii Certified Destination Specialist (CDL) and Luxury Lifestyle Specialist (LS) with the Travel Institute. 

Michael Akana is a member of the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) and is an ASTA Verified Travel Advisor (VTA).

Michael's expertise extends beyond cruising.  He loves to travel and to share the experience.  He has created customized group itineraries sometimes accompanying travellers with recent trips including Bhutan, Thailand, Alaska, China and Viet Nam and on safari in Kenya and Tanzania and in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. 

Michael has travelled on six continents.  While he has not yet set foot in Antarctica, he has voyaged to the Antarctic Ocean.

Michael believes in giving back to the community and the travel industry.  Michael currently volunteers with Kiwanis and Kiwanis Key Leader, a training conference in service leadership for youth.
