California is my second home, from the seals of La Jolla in San Diego to the fog and hills of San Francisco, and everything in between: Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Barbara, Malibu. Family vacations, romantic getaways, adventure trips, luxury vacations, I plan them all across the state.
San Diego & the South Coast
San Diego is a great starting point for exploring California's coast. La Jolla is one of the best stops, where wild seals and sea lions lounge right on the beach, the kind of moment a couple will stop and just watch. La Jolla has incredible seafood, and a lively nightlife scene too. San Diego is also home to thousands of college students, so beach bonfires are a local tradition. Continuing north, Oceanside is a true surf town, a great spot for beginner surfers, with plenty of surf schools right on the beach. Laguna Beach is a charming coastal town with shops full of art.
Los Angeles & Orange County
Los Angeles and Orange County are the part of California I know best, since I lived here myself for a while. The classics are classics for a reason. Anaheim is home to Disneyland but, Universal Studios is a favorite for thrill seekers, Griffith Observatory offers sweeping views of the city, especially at sunset, and the Santa Monica Pier has that classic boardwalk and Ferris wheel right on the ocean. Venice Beach is a must see, known for its boardwalk, street performers, and outdoor gyms. A ferry ride out to Catalina Island makes for a great day trip. Beverly Hills is worth a visit for shopping and sightseeing, and West Hollywood offers some of the best nightlife in the city.
Santa Barbara & Malibu
Heading north, the pace slows down. Santa Barbara is home to one of the most beautiful college campuses in the state, set along a stunning stretch of California coastline. Malibu is known for its dramatic cliffs and some of the best sunset views on the West Coast, worth seeing at least once. This stretch of coast is a favorite for scenic drives and golden hour photography.
San Francisco
San Francisco is worth two or three days on its own. A trip out to Alcatraz, a drive down the curves of Lombard Street, a ride on the historic cable cars, and a meal in North Beach, known for its Italian restaurants, make it one of the most iconic cities in California. San Francisco offers a completely different side of the state, one built on fog, steep hills, and over a century of history.
Why I do this
At the end of the day, my favorite thing in the entire state is still the simplest: sitting on the sand, watching the waves crash. California is gorgeous from top to bottom, but it's easy to get wrong without knowing where to go and when. That's where I can help, whether you're planning a family trip, a romantic getaway, an adventure, or a luxury vacation.
