I have to admit there was no better childhood to be had than to have grown up in Hawaii. Though as a child, you definitely suffer from "Rock Fever" and seemingly no desire greater than that of getting off the rock! When you do, all you can think about is when you get to go back! I can say there is no greater satisfaction than to return to one's island home. As a kid kickin' it at Sandy beach, cliff diving around the Blow Hole, sneakin' down to Cryin' Babies and trying not to get stuck on the Pali Highway; are moments that punctuated my formative years, and made for epic memories. Knowing the folklore of the islands while you traverse them makes the journey even more exciting! I remember when serving as a extra on "Hawaii Five-O", "Magnum PI" and "Jake and the Fat Man"; were excused absences from school as these television series made the Hawaiian economy thrive. Each island has so much to offer. Oahu offers that mix of city-beach experience and great nightlife and restaurants along Waikiki beach. It also is the home of the Polynesian Cultural Center, which tells the story of the Polynesian trek and the inhabiting of Hawaii, as well as the other islands that make up the Polynesian Triangle; including those of French Polynesia and New Zealand. What ties Oahu up in a nice little bow is the colossal surf of the North Shore, a must see for the avid surfer. Maui is idyllic for scenic drives like the Road to Hana, where you are able to witness the Ioa Needle, fantastic whale watching, and if you are adventurous enough to make the climb, the sunset over Haleakala crater. Kauai is famous for their waterfalls, on another notable television show from my childhood, Fantasy Island. It is the romantic island home of the Fern Grotto, which really does put one in the mind of a natural tunnel of love, the Na Pali Coast and Waimea Canyon, what we refer to as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. The last island I will mention, is actually the largest and the youngest island of the eight major islands of the Hawaiian archipelago, known as the island of Hawaii, but we locals refer to it as simply the "Big Island". This island holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of the Hawaii of my youth. It is known for Volcanoes National Park, and the currently active and erupting Kilauea volcano. The Big Island is a landscape of stark contrast from the volcanic "moonscape" look of the Kona side to the lavish green rain forest of Hilo, the diversity boggles the mind. Waikoloa Beach Resort located near Anaeho'omalu Bay offers every luxury one can imagine. The island itself can largely be described as off the grid, a true hiker's haven. While the luxury resorts in both Kona and Hilo provide a golfers' paradise! Come, your island adventure awaits!
