Grosse Cloche, the oldest belfries in France

One of the things I loved most about this itinerary was the opportunity to experience Bordeaux on two wheels. We took every biking excursion through the vineyards that we could, and it quickly became one of my favorite ways to explore. Cycling through the rolling vineyards of Sauternes, with endless rows of vines stretching across the countryside, offered a completely different perspective than viewing them from the river. Along the way, we visited a local wine estate where we learned about the production of the region's world-famous sweet wines before enjoying a tasting. The leisurely ride, made it an enjoyable adventure while allowing us to truly appreciate the peaceful beauty of the French countryside. Our cycling adventures continued in Bordeaux itself, where we pedaled through the city's historic streets, crossed elegant bridges, admired landmarks like the Royal Gate and Palais Rohan, and rode through beautifully landscaped public gardens. Of course, no visit would be complete without sampling a freshly baked canelé, Bordeaux's signature custard pastry with its caramelized crust and soft vanilla-rum center. Each ride gave us the chance to see places that many visitors miss, creating memories that felt far more personal than simply passing by on a bus.One of the greatest joys of a river cruise is that the journey itself becomes part of the destination. Each morning, we woke up to a new postcard-perfect view without ever having to unpack and repack our suitcases. From the comfort of the ship, we watched vineyard-covered hillsides, elegant châteaux, charming riverside villages, and centuries-old churches drift by as we relaxed on deck with a glass of local wine. River cruising offers an intimate way to travel, docking right in the heart of towns where you can simply step ashore and begin exploring. The pace is relaxed, the scenery is constantly changing, and every day brings a new adventure balanced with the comfort of returning to your floating boutique hotel each evening.

My Travel Tip: If you visit Bordeaux, don't miss La Cité du Vin, the city's remarkable wine museum. Even if you don't consider yourself a wine expert, the interactive exhibits bring the story of wine to life through history, culture, art, and technology. Be sure to visit the panoramic tasting room overlooking the Garonne River and the rooftops of Bordeaux, it's the perfect place to reflect on an unforgettable journey through one of the world's most celebrated wine regions.
