Washington, DC, is one of my favorite places to visit because I've been traveling there for more years than I have fingers and toes. I know and love the entire DMV metro area, which means I get to return as often as I'd like and every visit offers something new to experience.
One of the best things about DC is how many incredible activities are completely free. I never get tired of exploring the Smithsonian museums and attending seasonal events throughout the city. Summer brings favorites like Jazz in the Garden and movies by the waterfront, while spring transforms the city with cherry blossom celebrations and activities. No matter the season, visiting the National Monuments is a must. For an unforgettable experience, rent a scooter or bike and tour the monuments at night. Seeing them illuminated against the evening sky is absolutely breathtaking.
And then there's the food. The dining options are endless, offering cuisines from around the world and settings to match every mood. Whether you're enjoying waterfront dining, rooftop views, charming sidewalk cafés, or relaxing patio seating, DC's culinary scene never disappoints.
What I also love about Washington, DC, is that adventure doesn't stop at the city limits. Just across the river in Virginia, you can spend the day exploring the Pentagon, strolling through Old Town Alexandria for boutique shopping and dinner, or taking a scenic boat ride to National Harbor. While you're there, you can hop on the ferry, enjoy the waterfront attractions, or even try your luck at MGM Casino.
Washington, DC, is a wonderful destination for history, culture, incredible food, and an endless variety of activities. It's also the perfect place for state-hopping adventures. With Virginia and Maryland just minutes away, and easy access through the Metro and MARC train systems, you can explore multiple states in a single trip. Few destinations offer so much to see and do while making it all so accessible.
