O Canada!
How vast and beautiful it is, eh? If you’re looking for a real North American adventure, Canada has it all. With ten different provinces to choose from, the options are basically limitless. If you’re visiting for the first time or the hundredth, travelling to Canada can be daunting. That’s where I come in, your handy-dandy Canada expert agent! Whether you know exactly where you want to go or if you have no clue where to start, I can help you plan a memorable Canadian holiday.
Ten Provinces - Endless Opportunities
Canada is the second-largest country in the world, with its land totalling approximately 9,984,670 square kilometers (or 3,855,100 square miles for those of us in the U.S.). It is MASSIVE, which presents both opportunity and challenge when it comes to travel. If you don’t know where to start, here is a short description of what you can find in all ten of Canada’s provinces:
- British Columbia: A paradise where the rugged Pacific coastline meets towering mountain ranges. Here, you can sample award-winning vintages at sun-soaked vineyards in the Okanagan Valley, ski world-class slopes in Whistler, or enjoy a vibrant, farm-to-table culinary scene in Vancouver.
- Alberta: Home to the awe-inspiring Canadian Rockies. This province offers unparalleled alpine beauty, from the glacier-fed, turquoise waters of Lake Louise to the luxury mountain lodges of Banff and Jasper. It’s a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts, skiers, and luxury seekers alike.
- Saskatchewan: Known for its "Living Skies," this prairie province offers endless horizons, dramatic sunsets, and rich Indigenous cultural experiences. It's an underrated gem for travelers seeking wide-open spaces, pristine northern lakes, and a surprisingly innovative local food scene in cities like Saskatoon.
- Manitoba: Where the prairies meet the subarctic north. Manitoba is globally famous for wildlife adventuring, particularly in Churchill, the "Polar Bear Capital of the World", while its capital, Winnipeg, boasts a world-class arts scene, historic architecture, and deep cultural diversity.
- Ontario: A powerhouse of culture, nature, and cosmopolitan energy. From the thunderous roar of Niagara Falls and the tranquil, upscale cottage country of Muskoka to Toronto’s world-renowned theater district, luxury shopping, and Michelin-starred dining, Ontario truly has something for everyone.
- Québec: Step into a slice of Europe without crossing the Atlantic. Rich in French heritage, this province charms travelers with the historic, cobblestone streets of Old Québec City, the legendary Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, and Montreal’s cutting-edge arts, festivals, and world-class culinary bistros.
- New Brunswick: The gateway to the Maritimes and Canada's only officially bilingual province. It features the incredible Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides on earth, alongside historic coastal towns, beautiful river valleys, and exceptional, freshly caught seafood.
- Nova Scotia: Steeped in seafaring history and vibrant Celtic traditions. Travelers can drive the breathtaking headlands of the Cabot Trail, visit iconic lighthouses like Peggy's Cove, and indulge in a booming culinary trail featuring fresh Atlantic lobster and local tidal wines.
- Prince Edward Island: Canada's smallest province is big on charm. Known for its rolling green hills, dramatic red-sand beaches, and the pastoral landscapes that inspired Anne of Green Gables, PEI is an idyllic retreat famed for its quaint coastal inns and hyper-local, ocean-to-plate dining.
- Newfoundland and Labrador: A raw, rugged, and breathtakingly beautiful island destination. Known affectionately as "The Rock," it offers dramatic fjords in Gros Morne National Park, historic, brightly colored seaside communities like St. John's, and the unforgettable magic of watching massive icebergs drift down "Iceberg Alley."
