Having spent countless miles exploring its diverse terrain and urban centers, my passion for Washington state is deeply rooted in its gorgeous vistas, grand trail networks, and the spirit of adventure that defines its culture. From the vibrant green canopy of coastal rainforests to the sun-soaked rolling hills, this Pacific Northwest crown jewel offers an unmatched canvas for hikers, glampers, birders, wildlife enthusiasts, and travelers seeking immersive, slow-travel journeys.
Vancouver & The Columbia River Gorge: Cutting a dramatic channel through the Cascade Mountains, the Columbia River Gorge is a natural wonder. The historic waterfront city of Vancouver offers immediate access to both urban culinary innovations and raw, wild spaces. Exploring the Gorge means moving past vertical basalt cliffs, moss-draped forests, and an astonishing concentration of breathtaking waterfalls. Outdoor activities here are endless: you can kayak or experience world-class whitewater rafting on surging rivers, fish for salmon, or hike up wildflower-strewn paths. A crown jewel of the area is Beacon Rock, a massive volcanic core rising straight from the riverbank, offering incredible rock climbing and a unique switchback trail to panoramic views of the river valley below.
Camas: Just down the river lies Camas, a charming town that perfectly marries community heritage with pristine backyard nature. In addition to being my home, Camas is a haven for water sports and quiet exploration, centered around the beautiful waters of Lacamas Lake and Round Lake. Here, sunny afternoons are spent kayaking, paddleboarding, or fishing for bass and perch. More than 12 miles of local paths, including the gentle Lacamas Heritage Trail, weave past hidden waterfalls, ancient volcanic rock formations, and lush meadows that bloom with purple camas lilies in the spring.
Mount Hood & The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT): Looking south from the Washington border, the snow-capped peak of Mount Hood stands as a majestic year-round playground. Its high alpine meadows and chiseled wilderness are legendary, serving as a gateway to the famous Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) which winds northward through the entire state of Washington. Whether backpacking a section of the PCT, mountain biking through deep pine woods, or camping/glamping under a blanket of stars, this region provides an exhilarating escape. In winter, the focus shifts to exceptional mountain skiing, while the warmer months are perfect for birding, subalpine hiking, and winding down at high-end mountain spas or natural hot springs.
Wine Country / Walla Walla Valley: East of the mountains lies the Walla Walla Valley, a prestigious heart of the Pacific Northwest's wine and culinary scene. Nestled in the sunny rain shadow of the hills, this region is globally renowned for its world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and exceptional farm-to-table dining. It is an essential stop for travelers looking to balance rugged outdoor adventure with relaxed, premium comfort.
Seattle: A vibrant cultural center, Seattle is beautifully defined by its iconic landmarks, natural beauty, and world-class coffee and culinary culture. A perfect day in Seattle centers on its rich maritime flavor and active culture. You can spend your morning sampling fresh local seafood and artisanal goods at the historic Pike Place Market, absorbing the city's artistic energy, and walking the lively waterfront. Just steps away, the Seattle Aquarium offers an incredible, family-friendly look at the marine life of the Puget Sound, showcasing coastal ecosystems and emphasizing ocean conservation.
Olympic National Forest: Separated from the urban energy of the city lies the Olympic National Forest, an expansive sanctuary where giant old-growth trees meet dramatic coastal landscapes. This pristine area encompasses unique temperate rainforest environments, offering legendary hiking, lake fishing, and premier birding opportunities where you can spot bald eagles soaring above the tree canopy.
The region is also deeply tied to its rich Indigenous heritage, offering travelers a profound opportunity to learn about the ancestral lands, history, and stewardship of local tribes. After a long day of hiking through moss-draped canyons or kayaking on glacially carved lakes, travelers can relax at historic wilderness lodges, experience natural hot springs, or settle into a premium glamping site beneath towering western hemlocks.
Why Explore Washington With Me? My deep familiarity with these northern corridors allows me to design custom-built, seamless itineraries that avoid mass-tourism bottlenecks and focus on deep, impactful experiences. Whether you want a fully supported hiking or glamping vacation, a custom birding route through pristine river estuaries, a world-class wine tour, or an active family trip, I can connect you directly to the authentic heart of the Pacific Northwest.
Let’s get outside and discover your Washington.
