About Me

Architecture in Amsterdam
Architecture in Amsterdam

Netherlands is a destination that  feels easy to fall in love with. It has a balance of vibrant cities, charming smaller towns, rich history, and a lifestyle that feels both relaxed and beautifully intentional. From canals lined with historic homes to bike-filled streets, flower fields, and cozy cafés, the Netherlands offers a travel experience that feels both peaceful and full of life.

What I love most about traveling through the Netherlands is how accessible everything feels. The country is incredibly easy to navigate, making it simple to experience multiple cities in one trip without ever feeling rushed. Each place has its own personality, but they all share that same sense of charm, walkability, and appreciation for slowing down and enjoying the moment.

Amsterdam: Canals, Culture & Everyday Beauty

Amsterdam is where most journeys begin, and it’s a city that somehow feels both iconic and intimate at the same time. The canals, narrow houses, bikes everywhere, and the overall rhythm of the city create an atmosphere that feels instantly recognizable and incredibly charming.

Of course, there are the major landmarks like the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum, and the Van Gogh Museum, but what I love most about Amsterdam is the feeling of simply being there. Renting a bike and exploring the neighborhoods, wandering through the Jordaan district, sitting by the canals with coffee, or finding a small wine bar tucked into a side street feels just as memorable as the major sights.

The city has this perfect balance of energy and calm. During the day, you can explore museums, local markets, and beautiful parks like Vondelpark. In the evenings, the city feels softer—canal lights reflecting on the water, dinners that last for hours, and neighborhoods that feel lively without ever feeling overwhelming.

Amsterdam is also a great place to take day trips. Visiting places like the tulip fields in spring, traditional windmill villages like Zaanse Schans, or even smaller nearby towns adds another layer to the trip and gives you a deeper feel for Dutch culture beyond the city.

The Hague: History, Coast & Sophisticated Charm

The Hague offers a more polished and elegant feel compared to Amsterdam. As the political center of the country, it has a refined atmosphere, beautiful architecture, and a strong sense of history.

What makes The Hague especially unique is that it combines city life with the coast. You can spend part of your day exploring museums and historic streets, then head over to Scheveningen for beach views, seafood, and a slower coastal pace.It feels a little quieter and more local, making it a great stop for travelers who want culture without quite as much intensity.

Utrecht: Local Charm & Classic Dutch Beauty

Utrecht feels like everything people love about Amsterdam, but with a slightly more local and relaxed atmosphere. The canals here are beautiful, lined with cafés and terraces right along the water, creating one of the most charming city centers in the country.

It’s the kind of place where you can spend the day simply walking, biking, and enjoying the pace of the city. The historic center feels intimate and welcoming, and it gives you that classic Dutch experience without the heavier tourist crowds. For travelers who love beautiful cities but want something a little quieter and more authentic, Utrecht is always worth adding.

Groningen: Youthful Energy & Northern Character

Further north, Groningen offers a completely different feel. It has a younger, more energetic atmosphere thanks to its large student population, while still holding onto the historic charm you find throughout the country.

The city feels creative, lively, and slightly less expected, which is part of what makes it so enjoyable. It’s a great place for travelers who like exploring somewhere that feels a little less tourist-driven and more connected to everyday local life. The surrounding countryside in the north also adds another layer, with open landscapes, smaller villages, and that peaceful Dutch scenery that makes slow travel feel so rewarding.

Beyond the Cities: Tulips, Windmills & Countryside Living

Beyond the major cities, part of the magic of the Netherlands is in the smaller moments, bike rides through the countryside, flower fields stretching for miles, and the quiet beauty of traditional Dutch villages.

Spring is especially beautiful, when the tulip fields are in bloom and places like Keukenhof feel almost unreal. Windmills, canals, and countryside landscapes create that postcard-perfect version of the Netherlands people imagine, and somehow it really does feel that beautiful in person.

Who the Netherlands Is Perfect For

The Netherlands is one of those destinations that works for so many different types of travelers.

It’s perfect for:

  • Romantic European getaways
  • Family trips and easy multi-city travel
  • Travelers who love history, museums, and culture
  • Anyone wanting a beautiful, walkable destination that feels both relaxed and vibrant

Girls trip to Costa Rica!
Reviewed By ReaganH - Humboldt, California | Traveled to Costa Rica | Central America
McKenna planned the most incredible month-long trip through Costa Rica for our group of four. She took care of everything from accommodations and transportation to recommending fun, budget-friendly activities that made the trip easy to navigate and took all the stress of travel planning off our plate. The highlights of our trip was renting ATVs from Santa Teresa to Montezuma nearby, guided hiking tours of a volcano, and trying all the amazing food spots she suggested along the way. Everything was well thought out, and we never had to stress about logistics. We couldn’t have done it without her!
