About Me

Temples near Angkor Wat
Temples near Angkor Wat

Cambodia is a destination that feels deeply impactful. It’s rich in history, layered with culture, and full of moments that stay with you long after the trip ends. What stood out most to me while traveling through Cambodia was how personal the experience felt, whether learning about its past, connecting with locals, or exploring its quieter, less-traveled corners. From ancient temples and bustling cities to peaceful riverside towns and tropical islands, Cambodia offers a travel experience that feels both meaningful and beautifully diverse.

Siem Reap & Angkor Wat: History, Wonder & Perspective

Siem Reap is the gateway to one of the most incredible places in the world—Angkor Wat. Exploring the Angkor temple complex is an experience that’s hard to put into words. Watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat, wandering through ancient stone temples wrapped in jungle, and seeing intricate carvings that have stood for centuries creates a sense of awe that you don’t often find while traveling.

What I loved most about this area was how expansive it is, each temple feels different, and you can spend days exploring without it ever feeling repetitive. Siem Reap itself is also a great place to unwind after long days of exploring, with markets, restaurants, and a relaxed energy that balances out the intensity of the temples.

Phnom Penh: History & Cultural Depth

Phnom Penh offers a deeper, more reflective side of Cambodia. As the capital city, it blends local life with important historical sites that give you a better understanding of the country’s past.

Visiting places like the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is a heavy but meaningful experience, one that adds important context and perspective to your trip.

Beyond the history, Phnom Penh has a lively energy with markets, riverside restaurants, and a growing food scene. It’s a place that feels real, raw, and important to experience.

Kampot: Riverside Calm & Slower Living

Kampot was one of the places that really surprised me. It’s a quiet riverside town with a laid-back atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busier cities.

Here, you can spend your days kayaking along the river, exploring the surrounding countryside, or visiting nearby pepper farms—Kampot is actually known for producing some of the best pepper in the world.

One of my favorite experiences in this area was taking a short trip over to the Kep Crab Market. It’s such a simple but memorable experience—watching fishermen bring in fresh crab straight from the ocean, then sitting down at a local restaurant to enjoy it cooked right in front of you, often with Kampot pepper. It doesn’t get much fresher than that!

It’s the kind of place where you slow down without even trying, making it a perfect stop to recharge and take in a more peaceful side of Cambodia.

Sihanoukville & The Islands: Two Completely Different Worlds

Sihanoukville is the main gateway to Cambodia’s islands, though most travelers pass through quickly to reach the real highlights just offshore.

Koh Rong offers a more lively, social atmosphere, with beach bars, nightlife, and a bit more energy. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something fun and vibrant.

Just nearby, Koh Rong Samloem feels like a completely different world. Quiet, peaceful, and far less developed, it’s the kind of place where you disconnect, no busy schedules, just clear water, soft sand, and time to fully relax.

I loved experiencing both, because they each offer something totally different depending on the kind of vibe you’re looking for.

Why Cambodia Is So Memorable

Cambodia is one of those destinations that offers more than just beautiful places, it offers perspective. It’s a country where history, culture, and everyday life come together in a way that feels deeply meaningful.

It’s perfect for:

  • Travelers looking for cultural and historical depth
  • Those wanting a mix of adventure and slower, reflective moments
  • Backpack-style or immersive travel experiences
  • Beach lovers who want something less commercial and more raw

What I loved most about Cambodia was how every stop felt intentional and impactful. It’s not just a place you visit, it’s a place you experience, and one that stays with you long after you leave.

The highlights of our trip was renting ATVs from Santa Teresa to Montezuma nearby, guided hiking tours of a volcano, and trying all the amazing food spots she suggested along the way. Everything was well thought out, and we never had to stress about logistics. We couldn’t have done it without her!
