About Me

Unique Morrocan Architecture
Unique Morrocan Architecture

Morocco is an immersive destination that offers a colorful and culturally rich experience for travelers. It’s a place that engages all of your senses—from the vibrant colors and intricate architecture to the chaotic sounds of the medinas, and the aroma of spices and traditional Moroccan cuisine in the air.

What makes Morocco so special to me is the way every destination feels completely different, yet they’re all connected by a deep sense of culture, history, and tradition.

History & Bustling Cities:

Marrakech is the starting point for most travelers, and it’s an experience in itself. The energy here is fast-paced, with bustling souks, historic palaces, and hidden riads tucked behind unassuming doors. The medina is endlessly exciting, filled with street performers of all kinds—snake charmers, sword swallowers, and more. Exploring it feels like stepping into another world, surrounded by handcrafted goods, spices, and local artistry. Just be sure to keep an eye out for motorcycles coming around those tight corners.

Fes offers a more traditional and deeply cultural experience. Known for its ancient medina—one of the oldest in the world, it can feel like a maze of winding alleys and hidden passageways. I highly recommend exploring with a local guide, as it’s the best way to navigate the complexity and not miss the best spots. This is where you can witness traditional craftsmanship up close like leather tanneries and intricate tilework, while gaining a deeper understanding of Morocco’s history. A visit to the local food markets is a must, but be prepared for some unique and unexpected delicacies.

The Blue City:

Chefchaouen is one of the most visually stunning and aesthetically unique places in Morocco. Known for its iconic blue-painted streets and buildings, it offers a peaceful contrast to the larger, more fast-paced cities, something that’s definitely reflected in the laid-back, welcoming attitude of the locals.Wandering through Chefchaouen feels almost dreamlike, with every corner offering a new view. In my experience, it’s also one of the easier medinas to navigate, making it a great place to slow down, take in the scenery, and experience a quieter side of Moroccan culture.

Chefchaouen is perfect for travelers who enjoy a city atmosphere but also want access to nature. Nearby, you can explore Talassemtane National Park, where you’ll find the Akchour waterfalls and a natural stone arch known as “God’s Bridge.” Closer to town, a hike up to the Spanish Mosque offers panoramic views overlooking the city.

Sahara Desert:

A trip to Morocco isn’t complete without the bucket-list experience of visiting the Sahara Desert. Desert tours often include camel trekking across the dunes, staying in luxury desert camps, and experiencing the silence and vastness of the landscape. Watching the sunset over the dunes and waking up under a sky full of stars is something that stays with you long after the trip ends.

Booking a multi-day desert tour, most commonly from Fes to Marrakech or vice versa, allows you to fully experience the magic of the desert, but also gives you the opportunity to explore some incredible stops along the way. These often include the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco” for its role in many films.

Coastal Escapes:

For a different side of Morocco, Essaouira is a charming coastal town known for its fresh seafood and artistic feel. With its historic medina, ocean views, and slower pace, it’s the perfect place to unwind after the intensity of the larger cities. The medina here is cleaner and more traveler-friendly, giving it a more refined and approachable coastal feel compared to other destinations. If you’re looking to try something new—or just watch the pros—Essaouira is internationally known as one of the top windsurfing destinations in the world.

Further south, my personal favorite, Taghazout is a top pick for surfers and wellness travelers. Known for its surf culture, yoga retreats, and relaxed energy, it’s the perfect place to slow down and recharge while still experiencing Morocco’s coastal beauty. Think laid-back and youthful bohemian lifestyle blended with Moroccan culture.

Food & Local Experiences:

One of the highlights of traveling through Morocco is the food and cultural experiences. Meals here are deeply rooted in tradition and often shared, making them feel like part of the journey. Plan to try as much local cuisine as possible, dishes like traditional tagine and couscous, fresh msemen bread with amlou, and mint tea. Every meal reflects the country’s rich culinary heritage.

Beyond the food, immersing yourself in local culture is just as meaningful. Visiting traditional markets, taking cooking classes, exploring local art, and discovering handcrafted goods all offer a deeper connection to the destination. Staying in a traditional riad adds another layer to the experience, allowing you to fully embrace Morocco’s hospitality, and way of life.

McKenna planned the most incredible month-long trip through Costa Rica for our group of four. The highlights of our trip was renting ATVs from Santa Teresa to Montezuma nearby, guided hiking tours of a volcano, and trying all the amazing food spots she suggested along the way. Everything was well thought out, and we never had to stress about logistics. We couldn’t have done it without her!

McKenna helped us plan a two-week trip to New Zealand to visit friends, and it turned into so much more than we expected.
