About Me

Hidden Waterfall in the Jungles of Costa Rica
Hidden Waterfall in the Jungles of Costa Rica

Costa Rica, where jungle meets ocean, is a destination that makes you feel alive in every sense of the word from its laid-back “pura vida” lifestyle to its incredible biodiversity and natural beauty. I’ve been to Costa Rica multiple times and have experienced so much of what this beautiful country has to offer. Some trips have been filled with relaxing days spent on sun-soaked beaches and exploring vibrant coastal towns, while others have been centered around adventure navigating lush rainforests, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes.

That’s why I always recommend experiencing Costa Rica in two parts: the beaches and the jungle. Each offers a completely different energy, and together they create a well-rounded travel experience that allows you to fully appreciate what makes this destination so special.

Beaches: Surf, Sun & Coastal Living

Costa Rica’s coastline is known for its raw beauty, warm waters, and relaxed surf culture. Whether you’re looking for luxury travel, adventure, or a laid-back beach escape, there is truly something for everyone.

  • On the Pacific side, destinations like Tamarindo offer a lively atmosphere with great restaurants, vibrant nightlife, and easily accessible surf-friendly beaches, perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers. It’s one of the most popular beach towns for a reason, especially for travelers seeking a social, energetic vibe.
  • For a more upscale and secluded experience, the Papagayo Peninsula is known for its luxury resorts, private beaches, and elevated travel experiences. This is an ideal option for honeymooners, couples, or anyone looking for a more refined coastal escape.
  • If you’re drawn to something more off the beaten path, places like Santa Teresa and Dominical offer a more bohemian, wellness-focused vibe. Think yoga studios, beachfront cafés, and long, peaceful stretches of sand perfect for slowing down and fully immersing yourself in the “pura vida” lifestyle.
  • On the Caribbean side, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca feels like a completely different world, with a strong Afro-Caribbean influence, vibrant culture, and a unique blend of music, food, and lifestyle. The beaches here have a wild, raw beauty that feels more untouched and authentic.

Whether you’re surfing at sunrise, enjoying fresh seafood by the water, or watching the sunset with your feet in the sand, Costa Rica’s beaches offer a sense of ease that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. Just writing about it makes me want to go back.

Jungle & Mountains: Adventure, Wildlife & Rainforest Retreats

Beyond the coast, Costa Rica’s interior is where the magic of the jungle truly comes to life. This is where you’ll find dense rainforests, volcanic landscapes, and some of the most incredible wildlife experiences.

  • La Fortuna, home to the iconic Arenal Volcano, is one of the most popular areas for adventure and exploration. Here, you can hike through jungle trails and suspended bridges that take you above the canopy, soak in natural hot springs, go zip-lining through the rainforest, or explore hidden waterfalls, whether on foot or by ATV.
  • For a more serene and elevated experience, Monteverde offers a cooler climate and a distinctly different ecosystem. Known for its misty cloud forests and incredible biodiversity, this area is perfect for travelers who want to slow down and connect with nature in a more peaceful, immersive way. Beyond the nature, there are also unique experiences like coffee and chocolate tours, the Monteverde Cheese Factory, and local art galleries.
  • Further south, Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most biologically exciting places I’ve experienced. This is where you go for a truly raw jungle experience spotting monkeys, sloths, exotic birds, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Just outside the park, the town of Quepos offers a variety of hotels, restaurants, and guided tours to enhance your stay.

What makes Costa Rica so special is the way these environments make you feel. Whether you’re waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys in the jungle or ending your day in a natural hot spring surrounded by rainforest, there’s a calm, grounding presence that stays with you long after you leave.

I enjoy planning Costa Rica travels because this country is one of those destinations that offers the perfect balance of adventure and restoration, which is exactly what I look for in my own travels. I love combining the energy of the beaches with the depth of the jungle to create an experience that feels both exciting and grounding. Whether you're looking for a surf trip, a luxury honeymoon, a wellness escape, or an adventure-filled itinerary, Costa Rica offers endless possibilities to create a trip that feels completely personalized and unforgettable.

Girls trip to Costa Rica!
Reviewed By ReaganH - Humboldt, California | Traveled to Costa Rica | Central America
McKenna planned the most incredible month-long trip through Costa Rica for our group of four. She took care of everything from accommodations and transportation to recommending fun, budget-friendly activities that made the trip easy to navigate and took all the stress of travel planning off our plate. The highlights of our trip was renting ATVs from Santa Teresa to Montezuma nearby, guided hiking tours of a volcano, and trying all the amazing food spots she suggested along the way. Everything was well thought out, and we never had to stress about logistics. We couldn’t have done it without her!
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

Fantastic trip to visit a friend!
Reviewed By Hunter - Folsom, California | Traveled to Oahu Island | Hawaii | USA
I was planning a trip to visit a close friend in Oahu and had McKenna help with the details, which ended up making the trip so much better than I expected. She booked my flights and also suggested a few excursions to mix into the trip so it wasn’t just hanging out the whole time. She recommended a waterfall hike and a cultural show, and both ended up being highlights, not just for me, but even my friend who lives there hadn’t experienced them before. I’m really glad I had her help plan it because I definitely wouldn’t have thought to add those experiences on my own.
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

Bachelorette Cruise
Reviewed By GretaG - Reno, Nevada | Traveled to Mexico
I had McKenna help plan my bachelorette trip, and she made the entire experience better. We decided on a cruise for a few days, and she handled everything, from booking the cruise itself to organizing flights for all of my bridesmaids to arrive in the departure city. She also helped plan out excursions for each port, so we always had fun options lined up without having to figure things out last minute. I would absolutely recommend her for any group trip, especially something as special as a bachelorette.
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed By Sabrina - San Diego | Traveled to Mexico
I had McKenna help my sister and I plan a week-long trip to Mexico, and we’re so glad we trusted her guidance. We weren’t totally sure where to go, and she recommended Oaxaca for a more cultural experience—it ended up being such a highlight. She set us up with a walking tour through the city where we saw incredible street art and murals, and also booked us a cooking class where we made everything from scratch. It was such a fun, hands-on experience. She also suggested we finish the trip on the coast, which was the perfect way to unwind. The combination of both destinations made the trip feel really balanced. Having her help build out our itinerary made everything feel so much easier, and we experienced places we never thought of going
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.
