Cruising to the Carribean’s Islands

One of my favorite Caribbean islands is Bridgetown is the southernmost port of Barbados and the island’s capital. So many beaches, outdoor activities, and great culinary. We enjoyed the region’s caves and other natural ancient rock formations, and even sampling rum at the world-famous Mount Gay Rum distillery. 

Rihanna, the internationally acclaimed singer and entrepreneur, was born in Barbados and has strong ties to the island.Rihanna is a huge source of pride for Barbadians, and her impact on the island goes beyond music—she’s also heavily involved in philanthropic work there. It was a great honor to check out landmarks linked to her, like the Rihanna Drive in her hometown of Saint Michael. 

Barbados is home to a population of green monkeys, which are a species native to West Africa but were introduced to the island in the 17th century. Green monkeys are known for their playful and curious nature. It was a great sight to see them swinging through the trees and interacting with each other. 

The oldest church in Barbados is St. James Church, located in Holetown on the west coast of the island. It was originally built in 1628, making it one of the oldest Anglican churches in the Western Hemisphere. The church has a rich history and was rebuilt several times after being damaged by hurricanes, with the current structure dating from 1836. St. James Church is not only a place of worship but also a historic site of Barbados’ colonial past.

I have much appreciation for the Caribbean rich history and stunning landscapes! The combination of history and natural beauty is truly what makes many of these islands, like Barbados, so special. From historical landmarks like the oldest churches to the lush landscapes, beaches, and wildlife, there’s so much to explore and appreciate. Each island in the Caribbean offers its own unique blend of cultural heritage, history, and scenic beauty. Whether it’s a colonial-era fort, ancient plantations, or even the vibrant local traditions, these places offer more than just a vacation—they provide a chance to connect with the past while soaking in the beauty of the present.
