My Journey
My name is Ariel Torres, and my passion for accessible travel began long before I became a travel advisor. It began with my own journey.
I was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 13 years old, and in 2019 I became wheelchair-bound. For a while, travel felt like a distant dream. I worried about the same things many travelers with disabilities worry about. Would there be accessible accommodations? Would I be able to navigate the ship comfortably? Would excursions and activities be available to me? The uncertainty often felt overwhelming.
But I eventually realized that travel was still possible. I simply needed the courage to take the next metaphorical step.
Discovering What Is Possible
As I researched my options, I discovered something powerful: accessibility exists in far more places than many people realize. Cruise lines have invested in accommodations for guests with mobility, hearing, and sensory needs, opening doors that I once thought had closed forever.
One experience aboard Disney Wonder reinforced that lesson for me. Because I had taken the time to research accessibility options before sailing, I learned about multiple theater seating locations designed to accommodate different mobility and sensory needs. It was a simple detail, but it reminded me how life changing the right information can be. Had I not known to ask, I might never have realized those options existed.
My Approach to Accessible Travel
That experience shapes the way I serve my clients today. As someone who has personally navigated the challenges of traveling with a disability, I know which questions need to be asked and which details cannot be overlooked. I take pride in advocating for my clients, researching accessibility options, and helping ensure accommodations are in place before they ever leave home.
Most importantly, I want my clients to feel confident. I want them to know that their needs matter, their concerns are understood, and that they deserve to experience the joy of travel just as much as anyone else.
Why Travel Matters
I believe travel is about more than reaching a destination. It's about creating memories, sharing experiences with the people you love, and proving to yourself that the world is still waiting to be explored. My goal is to help every traveler, regardless of their circumstances, discover that travel is not only possible, but worthwhile.
