Zion National Park is Utah’s original showstopper — a red-rock cathedral carved by the Virgin River, where towering sandstone walls glow gold at sunrise and the canyon narrows into slot-like passages. It’s the most visited of Utah’s “Mighty Five,” famous for its iconic hikes and that unmistakable feeling of stepping into a natural sanctuary. There are 7 different areas of Zions, and the vibe shifts in each one of them.
Zion Canyon — bustling, energetic, full of hikers and shuttle buses, but jaw-dropping at every turn.
Kolob Canyons — quiet, moody, and wildly underrated, with deep red cliffs and fewer crowds.
East Zion — wilder, more open, with slickrock domes and hidden canyons. The Narrows — walking in the Virgin River between thousand-foot walls. Cool, immersive, and unforgettable.
Angels Landing — the famous chain-assisted ridge. Exposed, thrilling, and now permit-required.
Canyon Overlook — short, scenic, and perfect for sunrise or families.
Emerald Pools — waterfalls, alcoves, and classic Zion scenery.
Kolob Arch — one of the world’s largest natural arches, tucked away in the quieter northwest corner.
The Best way to see Zions,Start early — sunrise in Zion Canyon is magic and avoids crowds.Use the shuttle (seasonal) to access the main canyon.Explore beyond the main canyon — Kolob Canyons and the East Entrance feel like a different park.Mix iconic hikes with quiet corners — Zion rewards both.Stay in Springdale for easy access, or camp inside the park for the full canyon-immersed experience.
