I’ve experienced Alaska through two very different travel adventures—from a small, nature-immersion expedition cruise to enjoying a luxury suite in an exclusive area of a large ship—and both revealed the destination’s breathtaking beauty in their own unforgettable ways.  

My first visit to Alaska was aboard an UnCruise ship, a small vessel carrying just 90 passengers, and from the moment we set sail, it felt like the world had slowed down. We slipped quietly into narrow, hidden inlets—places so untouched they felt timeless. When the captain spotted wildlife, he would turn off the engines, and we’d drift in near-silence, hearts pounding as pods of whales bubble-net fed just feet away or bears stood patiently in shoreline streams, fishing for their morning meal.Each day felt like a gift. I glided through ice-filled fjords on skiff tours, kayaked across glass-calm waters where the only sound was my paddle dipping into the sea, and wandered through lush green meadows on bush walks. I traced fresh bear paw prints pressed into the earth and picked sun-warmed berries straight from the trees. I wasn’t just seeing Alaska—I was feeling it. The stillness, the wildness, the deep sense of connection made every moment unforgettable.

On my second visit to this bucket-list destination, I decided to experience Alaska in a completely different way—by treating myself to the elevated, exclusive world of The Retreat aboard the Celebrity Edge.
