ViatorAbout Me
Florida Through My Eyes: A Traveler’s Love Letter to the Sunshine State
Florida isn’t just a destination for me — it’s a collection of memories, traditions, and places that feel like chapters of my life. Over the years, I’ve wandered from the emerald waters of the Panhandle to the pastel sunsets of the Keys, and each corner of the state has carved out its own place in my heart. But if there’s one spot that rises above the rest, it’s Key West — my absolute favorite escape.
The Road to Key West: A Journey Worth Taking
Sure, you can fly directly into Key West. But if you ever have the chance, start in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, or Palm Beach and make the drive instead. The Overseas Highway is more than a road — it’s a ribbon of asphalt floating above turquoise water, a scenic transition from the everyday world to the laid-back magic of the Keys.Every time I make that drive, the water views feel unreal, like the ocean is welcoming me back. And if you’re feeling adventurous? Take the seaplane to Dry Tortugas National Park. It’s one of those rare experiences that stays with you — remote, wild, and unforgettable.Fort Lauderdale & Miami: Two Gateways, Two Personalities. Before heading south, I often spend time in Fort Lauderdale. There’s something calming about its waterways and boat rides, a perfect prelude to the slower pace of the Keys. On our last trip, an afternoon on the water set the tone for the days ahead.Miami, on the other hand, is pure energy. If you want nightlife, culture, food, and a beach that feels alive at all hours, Miami delivers. Staying right on the sand is always a win — the city hums with possibility.
Pensacola: Our Home Away From Home
While Key West is my favorite getaway, Pensacola is something deeper — a place woven into my family’s rhythm. We spend a lot of time there, especially in the summer, and it always feels like coming home. The beaches are endless and varied, Destin is just a short drive away, and New Orleans is close enough for a spontaneous road trip. And if you’re in town at the right time, catching the Blue Angels practice over the water is a must. It’s one of those uniquely Pensacola moments that never gets old.
Siesta Key & Sarasota: Where Family Memories Live
Before my Florida travels became a regular tradition, Siesta Key was already part of my story. I spent years visiting family there, soaking in the soft white sand and the easy pace of Sarasota and Bradenton. Those trips were filled with group adventures, long beach days, and the kind of family time that sticks with you.
Why Florida Keeps Pulling Me Back
Every region of Florida has its own personality:Key West — vibrant, quirky, endlessly beautiful. South Florida — energetic gateways with their own charm. Pensacola — familiar, warm, and full of tradition. Siesta Key — nostalgic, peaceful, rooted in family. Florida isn’t just a place I visit. It’s a place I return to, again and again, because each trip adds another layer to the story.
