Make sure to spend a day in Florence at the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze so you have enough time to view Michaelangelo's "The David." Just a 90 minute drive from Florence is Pisa. The fascinating thing about Pisa is not just 'The Leaning Tower.' All 3 buildings, the church, the mausoleum, and the tower. All 3 buildings lean in some way. It's the ground that's not stable! Be sure to give yourself at least 3 hours to tour all 3 buildings. Rome is a full 3 hour's drive from Florence, so I suggest visiting Rome on a different day. You will need at least 2 full days to hit the highlights in Rome, but I recommend at least 4 days so I can get you to all the hidden gems. Many people cruising the Mediterranean stop in Rome (Civitavecchia) and some of the cruise lines stay in port for 2 days. 'Must-do's' are The Cistine Chapel, The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and Vatican City. For 1st timers, definitely take a historical tour of the city.
