An Evening in the Neon City
Arrive in Tokyo in the early afternoon and get settled into your accommodation. Given the significant time zone difference, it is important to try and stay awake until the evening. Doing so will aid in adjusting to the local time zone and minimize the effects of jet lag. The best way to combat jet lag is fresh air. Head out to explore the bustling neighborhood of Shibuya, known for its famous crossing and trendy shopping streets. Visit the Meiji Shrine, a serene oasis amidst the bustling city. This should only take you 1-2 hours to explore its beauty. If you are feeling up to it, take a stroll through Yoyogi Park on your way to the famous Shibuya Crossing where seven crossroads meet. Cross the iconic and chaotic Shibuya Crossing where all the lights turn red allowing hundreds of pedestrians to cross at once. This exciting experience can be followed up with a mouthwatering dinner at a traditional izakaya where you can sample a variety of Japanese dishes and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Exploring Tokyo
Today is the day to explore Tokyo! Start your day with a full Japanese breakfast at your hotel. Then it is time to visit the historic Asakusa district. Take your time exploring Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, and browse through the Nakamise Shopping Street for souvenirs and fun local snacks. In the afternoon, head to the Tokyo Skytree, one of the tallest towers in the world, for panoramic views of Toyko. Then it is time for lunch where you can enjoy a sushi lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, it is time to head over to the Shinjuku district. If you are in need of a break from the busy streets of Tokyo, dip into the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden or hang out at one of Tokyo’s famous themed cafés. In the evening, Shinjuku comes alive with entertainment. Stop and have dinner at one of the many Karaoke bars. Don’t leave Shinjuku without stopping at Omoide-Yokocho, or ‘memory lane,’ which is one of the most photographed places in Tokyo.

Enjoying the Hot Springs of Hakone
Hakone is a scenic area famous for its hot springs and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Please note that the earlier you arrive in Hakone, the better your view of Mount Fuji will be, as visibility decreases as the day progresses. This is the perfect excursion to relax and connect with nature after exploring bustling Tokyo. The train ride from Tokyo to Hakone is only 90 minutes. Once you arrive in Hakone make your way over to the Open-Air Museum and leisurely walk through the exhibitions letting your mind wonder about how the sculptors were able to make such interesting pieces. Grab a coffee at one of the museum cafés and enjoy the natural surroundings before your boat ride on Lake Ashi. After your boat ride, let yourself indulge in a traditional Japanese kaiseki lunch. When you have finished your lunch, it is time to visit one of Hakone’s many natural hot springs to relax in for the rest of the day.

Seeing the Temples of Kamakura
Start your day at a leisurely pace in Tokyo, and treat yourself to a delightful brunch. Once you are finished, make your way to the train station for a day trip to Kamakura. The hour-long train ride offers a perfect opportunity to relax, allowing your brunch to settle before embarking on an activity-filled day. Once you arrive in Kamakura, it is time to visit The Great Buddha of Kamakura, a designated Japanese National Treasure. The Buddhist temple, Kotoku-in, is home to The Great Buddha and is a very special place to visit. Continue on to visit the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and learn the history that has been around for 800 years. Take your time strolling through the grounds of the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and viewing the two ponds representing the Minamoto clan. Your visit to the Buddhist temple and shrine will leave you feeling very Zen. Grab some lunch at one of the many popular restaurants in Kamakura. After lunch, stop at a café to pick up a coffee and wagashi (sweets).

Make sure to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to departure and account for potential traffic you may experience on your way to the airport. Tokyo’s airports have great options for lunch and dinner if you need a bite to eat before your flight.
