Fiji is one of those places that feels like it was designed for both adventure and connection, a destination that somehow gives you adrenaline, peace, and joy all at once. When my family and I traveled there, we made our way to the northern tip of Viti Levu where we experienced some of the most epic diving of our lives. Dropping below the surface, we found ourselves surrounded by coral reefs so vibrant it felt like swimming through a living painting, with schools of tropical fish flashing past us in every direction. My youngest was too small to dive but snorkeled happily at the surface, pointing and laughing every time something colorful swam by, while the rest of us explored the depths together. The beauty of the underwater world there is something I’ll never forget, and it is the kind of experience that binds you as a family, sharing wonder in real time. Everywhere we went in Fiji, we were met with kindness and warmth and "Bula!" the traditional greeting. The people welcomed us with smiles that made us feel instantly at home, and their generosity of spirit made every encounter meaningful, whether it was sharing kava in a traditional ceremony, listening to stories passed down for generations, or simply chatting at the market. My husband, who is a surfer, had his own dream come true in Fiji. Surfing Cloudbreak had been on his bucket list for years, and every day he paddled out into those legendary waves with the biggest grin on his face. While he chased waves, the rest of us stayed at an all-inclusive resort nearby where there was more than enough to keep us entertained. The kids made fast friends in the pool and on the beach, I relaxed in ways I didn’t even realize I needed, and when he came back from the surf, we would all come together again over long dinners with the ocean as our backdrop. It was the perfect balance of everyone getting what they wanted while still sharing the trip as a family. One of the highlights for me was the shark dive in Beqa Lagoon. Dropping into the water and seeing those powerful, graceful animals glide past was an unforgettable thrill, a mix of awe and adrenaline that made me feel alive in every sense of the word. And all the while, the backdrop of Fiji was almost surreal in its beauty, from pristine beaches that seemed to stretch on forever to lush rainforests alive with birdsong. No matter where we were, whether hiking through greenery, drifting on calm blue water, or simply watching the sun sink into the sea, I kept thinking there was no place on earth quite like it.Fiji is the kind of destination where families and couples alike find connection comes naturally. In the comfort of Fiji’s many resorts, mornings start with lingering breakfasts by the ocean, afternoons are filled with a mix of adventure and relaxation, and evenings bring the joy of sunset cocktails, new friendships, and the easy togetherness that comes when the distractions of everyday life fall away.
