One of the most remarkable hidden gems in the US has to be South Dakota! Known primarily for Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota has so many more incredible locations that await your discovery! Don’t get me wrong—Mt. Rushmore is a must while you are in South Dakota. It’s an incredible monument that really does elicit reflection on some of the men that were instrumental in the founding and development of America as a sovereign nation. There is ample seating and shows throughout the year preformed at this US landmark. But Mt. Rushmore is just the start of an incredible experience that your South Dakota vacation will become! The Iron Mountain Highway crawls up the neighboring hills  and gives a stunning view of Mt. Rushmore—more than once! In fact, the road’s design is a lesser known architectural marvel. The view from Black Elk Peak (the highest point in the US east of the Rockies!) is absolutely breathtaking for the mountain climber, hiker, or backpacker looking for an unforgettable trek! Multiple trail options will give everyone a chance to hike this beautiful wilderness area and experience South Dakotan nature from the middle of it all. The scramble to Little Devil’s Tower rewards hikers with incredible panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys and excellent photo opportunities.
