Some cities you visit.
Venice you fall for. I did — and I can't wait to go back.
Why Venice
There is nowhere else like it.
No cars, no traffic, just water and stone and the sound of your own footsteps on a bridge at midnight.
Venice asks you to slow down and walk, and that's the whole gift of it — the best things I found were the ones I wasn't looking for. A quiet campo. A tiny bacaro. A shop I'd never have known to search for.Where I'd stayThe Baglioni Hotel Luna is my recommendation.
It's the oldest hotel in Venice, tucked just steps from St. Mark's Square but far enough off the main flow to feel like a genuine retreat.
The service is warm and old-world in the best sense, the interiors are beautifully done, and the location is close to unbeatable — you can walk out the door and be in the middle of everything, then come back to quiet.
For a first visit to Venice especially, being able to step out into the city on foot changes the entire experience.I also work across Venice's finest hotels and can match you to the right neighborhood — whether you want the buzz of San Marco or something quieter in Dorsoduro or Cannaregio.Arriving by waterTake the water taxi. Not the crowded public boat — a private one, with the wooden deck and the open back.
Coming into Venice by water for the first time is one of those travel moments you don't forget, and it's the right way to start the trip. I arrange these in advance so you're not sorting it out with luggage after a long flight. The food — and the shopping
The food in Venice is wonderful, and I loved it, but what I really loved was bringing it home.
The spice shops are extraordinary.
So are the local products — olive oils, aged balsamic, dried pastas, Venetian sea salt, honey, coffee. I came back with a suitcase heavier than it should have been and no regrets whatsoever.
The shopping in general is exceptional. Venice does luxury properly — Italian leather, glass from Murano, handmade paper, beautiful boutiques on the streets around San Marco alongside the flagship names.
It's a city where the browsing is as good as the buying.Evenings in St. Mark's Square
This was my ritual, and it's the thing I'd tell everyone to do. Sit in St. Mark's Square in the evening, order something, and simply stay a while. The orchestras play, the light goes soft and gold across the basilica, and the whole world walks past you. It costs more than it should and is worth every euro.
I did it every single night.Perfect for couples — and for travelers who love beautiful things
Venice is deeply romantic and a natural choice for honeymoons, anniversaries, and milestone celebrations. It's also ideal for travelers drawn to art, architecture, design, food, and craftsmanship — there's endless depth here for anyone who wants it.And Venice pairs beautifully with the rest of Italy, with the Dalmatian Coast just across the Adriatic, and with a luxury cruise — it's one of the great embarkation cities in the world.
