About Me

Colorful Colonial Towns
Colorful Colonial Towns

Colombia surprised me in every possible way. What I thought would be just a scenic adventure turned into an unforgettable journey through vibrant cities, breathtaking landscapes, and the warmest people I’ve ever met. From the cool heights of Bogotá to the sultry shores of Cartagena, each destination left an imprint on my soul.My first stop was Bogotá, Colombia’s high-altitude capital nestled in the Andes. The city greets you with its misty mornings, red-brick rooftops, and a vibrant culture that pulses from every corner. I wandered through La Candelaria, the historic heart of the city, with its colonial architecture, street art, and the unforgettable Gold Museum, where ancient treasures whispered stories of lost civilizations. The ride up to Monserrate gave me sweeping views over Bogotá, a reminder of just how expansive and alive this city is. I sipped Colombian coffee in trendy cafés in Zona G, mingled with locals in Usaquén’s Sunday markets, and experienced the city's strong creative energy, from music to fashion to street performances.Next came Medellín, once a city with a difficult past, now a beacon of innovation, transformation, and resilience. Set in a lush valley surrounded by emerald-green mountains, Medellín stole my heart instantly. The people here are proud of their progress, and it shows. I rode the famous Metrocable over barrios that now burst with color and life, thanks to urban art and community pride. Comuna 13 especially stood out,its once-feared alleys are now open-air galleries of powerful murals and hip-hop dancers. I strolled along Avenida La Playa, visited the Botero Plaza, and admired the voluptuous bronze sculptures by Colombia’s most famous artist, Fernando Botero. Medellín's eternal spring weather made it even harder to leave. And yes, the nightlife? As lively and contagious as the smiles of its people. After Medellín, I flew north to Colombia’s Caribbean coast to explore Barranquilla, a city bursting with music, energy, and authentic Caribbean soul. Though often overshadowed by its coastal siblings, Barranquilla surprised me. I arrived just before Carnaval, the second-largest carnival in the world, and I felt like I stepped into a dream. The streets came alive with cumbia dancers, colorful parades, and the beat of drums that echoed into the night. Even outside of Carnaval season, the city exudes a celebratory vibe. I visited the Museo del Caribe, danced to the sounds of Joe Arroyo, and tasted coastal specialties like arepa de huevo and fresh ceviche. Barranquilla’s riverfront renewal project by the Magdalena River gave me a peaceful break from the party energy, a place to walk, reflect, and connect with locals over coconut water and music. Then came Cartagena, and nothing could have prepared me for the magic of this city. Walking through the Walled City felt like stepping into a painting: bougainvillea-covered balconies, horse-drawn carriages on cobbled streets, and the scent of sea breeze and empanadas in the air. I watched sunsets from Café del Mar, overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and took boat trips to the Rosario Islands, where the waters shimmered in hues of turquoise and coral. The romance of Cartagena is undeniable. I stayed in a restored colonial house, swam in rooftop pools, and lost track of time in the rhythms of salsa music echoing through Getsemaní. The nights were filled with dancing, and the days with discovery—whether I was visiting the San Felipe Castle or savoring seafood by the shore. What truly made Colombia unforgettable, though, wasn’t just the stunning cities or the dramatic contrasts of mountain and sea. It was the people. Colombians are some of the warmest, most generous souls I’ve ever met. Everywhere I went, I was welcomed—not just as a tourist, but as a friend. There’s a saying here: “El riesgo es que te quieras quedar”—“The risk is wanting to stay.” And I understood it deeply. Colombia is a country that defies stereotypes, embraces life with color and courage, and offers something new every day: whether it’s a freshly brewed cup of world-class coffee, a street performance in Medellín, a carnival dance in Barranquilla, or a quiet moment watching the sea in Cartagena.I came to Colombia curious. I left in love. And I know without a doubt, I’ll be back! PS: Did I mention that Colombia produces some of the finest Arabica coffee beans in the world ?
