About Me

The Kelpies of Falkirk
The Kelpies of Falkirk

A soccer-loving family of six was headed to England with their training group and wanted to add a few days in Scotland ahead of time. Together we planned a quick 4-day itinerary focused primarily around Edinburgh, with time for two day trips.

Upon arriving in Edinburgh, the family took advantage of the Edinburgh Castle flexible entry ticket which allowed them to visit the Castle any time that day during opening hours. The day culminated in a food tour, keeping them moving and filling them up after a long day of travel.

Their first full day in Edinburgh was packed with all the usual sites – the Royal Mile, St Giles Cathedral, Real Mary King’s Close, and Holyrood Palace. But time was also included for some side stops along Victoria Street and Cockburn Street.

After a full day spent in the bustling city, it was time to take a break and head to the coast. A quick 40-minute train ride from Waverley Station took them to the picturesque seaside town of North Berwick on the south shore of the Firth of Forth. The train station is walkable to town passing by beautiful golf courses and green spaces. With two beaches to explore, a charming High Street, and various nature tours available, it’s a quiet and laid-back escape from the city.

For the final day of their Scotland adventure, the family headed out on a private guided tour to Falkirk in the Central Lowlands. Home to the massive steel horse-heads called The Kelpies and the Falkirk Water Wheel, Falkirk is a mix of old-world charm and modern engineering advances. With much to see and do and a private guide, the family was in good hands on their final day in Scotland.

While it was a short trip, the family enjoyed getting a glimpse of Scotland before heading to London for a week full of soccer and sightseeing with friends.
