Before the Trip Months before the Trip, reserve your Rocky Mountain National Park Permit and reservation several months before arrival. You can also tour the park with many Tour Guides, but book before arrival. I suggest booking all activities before arrival and planning your trip around those activity dates and times. This way, you can ensure a smooth and well-organized trip. If you want to white water raft and horseback ride in Rocky Mountain National Park, I suggest inquiring about the Paddles and Saddles deal, which may save you money. I love the Rocky Mountain National Park Gateway Stables; they're the most accommodating and patient guides, and we had a wonderful experience touring the park on horseback.

Arrive in Denver, pick up your car rental at the airport, and drive North for an hour and thirty minutes to Estes Park, Colorado. Depending on your flight's arrival, you may want to see some of Denver's interesting sites like the Denver Botanical Gardens or Denver's Museum of Nature and Science before the drive to Estes Park. Check into your hotel; there are many beautiful accommodations like the Stanley Hotel, which is featured in The Shining movies and hosts magic shows and ghost tours. I prefer a non-haunted hotel and enjoyed the Expedition Lodge, or try the Estes Park Resort for a more luxurious stay. If you arrive hungry, there are plenty of places to eat. I recommend Poppy's Pizza and Grill, which has a picturesque view of the river downtown, for some shopping afterwards; some shops close early, but not all. Once back to your hotel or lodge, enjoy the firepits with some smores and rest before the next day's activities.

After hiking, head to the Gateway Stables for an afternoon of horseback riding through the park with informative guides. When you finish your ride, return to the hotel to rest and freshen up before dinner. I suggest Grubsteak Restaurant, which has the best burgers and an enormous covered patio.
