COUNTRIES VISITED:England
PLACES VISITED:London
SUGGESTED DURATION:5 Days
You can fit in a lot of things, in a short amount of time in London. You can also find the time to take a break and relax if you need to. The city has easy access with the public transportation and you will get to see so much along your journey, just trying to get to where you want to go. Enjoying the free museums can help with your budget costs when in London. Making reservations for some of the popular restaurants helps, as when you get hungry it is easy to get overwhelmed in all the options around you. Taking the time to explore the shops can take up time very easily.

Arrival day
We arrived in the late afternoon by train from Edinburgh. We took a black cab to our hotel The Waldorf Hilton, London. The location of this hotel is perfect for being close to most of the major historical places being within walking distance or public transportation. We had stayed here the year before with our kids and the service was amazing, which is why we came back. The executive lounge is a great place to start your mornings and is a great place to rest with a drink when you have been out and about all day. Once we were checked in, it was drop off the bags and go for a walk over to Covent Garden for dinner, as this area has so many options. We went with the restaurant Tapas Stories, this allowed us to try different things but in small portions. The food was so good, and it was nice to sit out in the courtyard inside Covent Garden. Then it was a nice walk back to the hotel and off to bed.
HIGHLIGHTS:
take a black cab for the short distances, when you have suitcases, it helps make a relaxing journey.

Day two of fun
We woke up and enjoyed our slow morning start. We caught the Thames clipper which is a 10-minute walk to the dock from the hotel. We took the boat over to Greenwich and we set off on a scavenger hunt with City Days, called Greenwich Guile. This took us up and down streets and stops along the way to learn about the history of the area. It took about 3 hours and was 3 miles in walking. It was nice as we were coming down the main hill instead of going up it. We enjoyed a nice meal in a pub for lunch. Then we visited the Queen's House, were we got to see the famous staircase. We then took the boat back to go back to the hotel where we had a break in the lounge with some drinks. Once we had rested enough it was time for dinner, where we walked over to China town and ate some amazing food at Golden Dragon, but will say, the portions for food were large and we took some to go. Then it was a nice walk back and a good night sleep.
HIGHLIGHTS:
doing a scavenger hunt really allows you to see more than you think

Day three of fun
This morning, we got to start late, as the museums don't open until 10am. We took our time and then went over to The British Museum, which is free to enter. We enjoyed seeing the exabits, but as there are so many, we did not get to see them all. That is ok as with it being free, you can always go back. We wanted to return to one of the restaurants we had been to the year before. We had made a reservation for lunch at Street Pizza in St Paul's. This is a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, which serves all you care to eat pizza for a set price. They carry around different pizza's and they will serve you a slice if you wish to have some. After lunch we went shopping at Fortnum and Mason and enjoyed the area near there for shopping. We went back to the hotel for a little break and enjoyed some drinks. We went out for dinner with some family and had an early night.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Enjoy the free museums

This morning, we woke up feeling very slow, it was ok for today because we had booked the restaurant The Clink in Brixton for lunch. This restaurant is inside a prison, and we had to arrive earlier than the mealtime to get through security. The journey to get to Brixton by bus took a while to get there from the hotel. The restaurant is an amazing place to try, as long as you are over 18 years of age. While yes you are inside an active prison with prisoners being the waiters, host, bar tenders, servers and cooks. This is a program that they have in several prisons to help people learn a trade and to help stop reoffenders. We ate a three-course meal and enjoyed mocktails. After the meal we were led out to be able to retrieve our personal items from the lockers. The prison was near the Imperial War Museum by bus, so we were able to head there and go for free to see the exhibits. We had our dinner plans at the Fenchurch inside the Sky Gardens, we made it there early to see the views.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Try The Clink restaurant. It is very good

This was our last morning, and we had enough time to go to the shops near the hotel to buy some foods we like and wanted to bring back home. We had a driver hired to pick us up and take us back to the airport. The vacation was over.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Hire a driver to make a relaxing journey to the airport
FINAL THOUGHTS
London has so many free things you can do. You can easily use the public transportation so don't be afraid to try it. You won't get to fit in everything and that is ok. Enjoy what you do get to see.
