I started my travel career in 1983 at a small South Philadelphia agency and moved quickly to a company called UnTours. There, I created and led tour programs in Austria, Czechia, and Hungary. I soon also worked with clients going to Switzerland and Germany. During this period I lived in Austria and Switzerland for many months at a time, getting to know Europe and helping my clients gain a deep understanding of the local culture. 

After leaving the company in 1996 for a few years to go to graduate school, I returned in 1996 to serve as general manager, CEO, and president of UnTours. I oversaw all UnTours in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK. I traveled to all of these destinations many times over decades and even wrote guidebooks on some of them. Over the years, I’ve also traveled in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and New Zealand.

I retired from UnTours in 2023 and took a well needed break by walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain with my wife before spending time in our favorite town in Greece.

Now, with Taussig Travel, I look forward to helping people of all ages, from young people to seniors experience Europe for the first or the twentieth time. Here are just a few of the kinds of vacations I’d love to advise you on:

• River cruises. There are plenty of companies sailing European rivers and it’s sometimes hard to decide which one is right for you.
• Gourmet canal cruises. I particularly like Burgundy where you can cruise at a slow speed through the magical landscape, sampling local cuisine and delicious wines.
• Sea cruises. One of my favorites is a yacht cruise of the Greek Islands, but there are lots of other options as well.
• Walking tours. I’ve walked for weeks at a time in England and Spain. I’ve hiked a lot in Switzerland and Austria. I’d love to help you find the right tour for you.
• Biking tours. I  am enthusiastic about seeing Europe’s countryside on two wheels, especially when there’s a good meal waiting at the end of the day. 
• Custom itineraries. Whether you are on your own or are part of a large family group, I can help you craft the perfect itinerary.

I believe strongly in traveling in ways that minimize negative environmental and cultural impacts. This was a focus for me at UnTours and I am happy to discuss this with my Taussig Travel clients as well. Fortunately, many European companies have the same concern and are continually improving their performance.

When I’m not in Europe, I love hiking and paddling in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. In the winter, I do as much cross country skiing and snowboarding as possible. 

I have a BA in European Studies from Empire State University and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
