I explored my 7th continent, Antarctica, aboard Atlas Ocean Voyages’ World Navigator. I love the smaller, yacht-like expedition ships that create a more intimate & immersive experience. Before the cruise, my journey began with a couple of days in Buenos Aires, where I stayed at the beautiful Palacio Duhau.I enjoyed a fantastic tango show at La Ventana & an unforgettable culinary evening at The Argentine Experience. AOV arranged a very early charter flight to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. I boarded the ship for a 9-night expedition cruise, crossing the notorious Drake Passage. We were blessed with calm seas. The five days spent exploring Antarctica with the expedition team were extraordinary. Sailing among towering glaciers & brilliant blue icebergs, witnessing incredible wildlife, walking among penguins on the continent was beyond anything I could have imagined. It was without question the most spectacular travel experiences of my life and a true adventure of a lifetime.

My first day in the zodiac, heading out to walk on the continent among the penguins, was absolutely thrilling. Massive chunks of ice surrounded us, from baby bergs to towering icebergs in the most breathtaking shades of blue I’ve ever seen. While I worried the zodiac might pop, our guides reassured us, and the experience was exhilarating. We spotted numerous leopard seals—some playfully approaching our boat, others chasing penguins though occasionally bittersweet to witness. On that first outing, we walked alongside three species of penguins: Adelie, Chinstrap, and Gentoo. They had no fear of humans, and we always made way for their march across the snow. Watching the fledglings waddle off into the frigid sea was simply precious. Over the following days, I had several more opportunities to explore among them, and each encounter was majestic and spectacular. I couldn’t get enough of these incredible creatures and the raw beauty of Antarctica. It was experience that I’ll never forget.
