I have a deep affection for Belgium. My first love hails from Flanders, and every year, I make the journey to visit our daughter. The sights and sounds of this enchanting country have become dear to my heart. During my last trip, I stayed at the Residence Inn Marriott in Ghent, where I had a wonderful time. Exploring the city, I took captivating tours, including one of the medieval Gravensteen Castle—a must-see if you’re in the vicinity. As a true sightseer, I relish exploring different chocolate shops and immersing myself in all that Belgium has to offer. Recently, I marveled at the Atomium—a colossal structure with intriguing trivia and fun facts. Mini Europe, where I visited major landmarks from across the continent, felt truly magical. And of course, no trip to Brussels is complete without indulging in mussels—it’s an absolute must! My culinary background, shaped by culinary school and a decade working in Sonoma County’s finest restaurants, has given me a discerning palate. Lombardsjide, a charming coastal town where my daughter’s grandparents have a beach house, holds a special place in my heart. The friendly locals, who all speak English, make it even more delightful. I’ve had adventurous moments too—like taking my 11-year-old daughter to Plopsaqua, an indoor water park with a thrilling river slide. And while she opted out of the Nieuwjaarsduik in Ostend, I dove in headfirst—it was wild! Meanwhile, she enjoyed her winter break by sleeping in, while I glided through Brugge on a gondola—a quintessential Belgian experience.
