Norway is a year round destination depending on your interests.  The city of Oslo is the perfect starting point for a Norwegian vacation. The newly finished Harbor Promenade offers a 10 km uninterrupted walk along the Oslo fjord, with kayaking and biking trips available. Walk to the rooftop of the new Oslo Opera building along the way. Norway is a kingdom and one can visit the Royal Palace where the king and queen live. Perhaps the most important visitor site in Norway reflects the Viking past: the museum that showcases three Viking ships from 850 A.D. They are perfect in their form and remind us of what the Vikings were capable of making.

Bergen, a quaint city with colorful wooden houses on the west coast of Norway is filled with maritime history. It is surrounded by mountains and fjords, perfect for hikers. The fjords are now close: take a cruise or drive but see as many as possible! There are over 1,000!

Norway is dotted with Stave Churches, built in Medieval times by men that understood carpentry and boatbuilding. They are both mysterious and stunning.

Skiing is popular all over Norway, both cross country and alpine. The 1994 Winter Olympics were held in Lillehammer, a center for all winter sports.

If you are looking to go off the beaten path, take a short flight to the Lofoten Islands where you can visit the Sami people along with their Reindeer.  This a great location to go ice swimming, take a snowmobile tour, or hunt for the Northern Lights.  

The Norwegians are friendly and fit and close to nature. Most speak English very well and are happy to help.

Food is healthy and delicious--try the cheeses, bread and of course, fish!  For foodies, try Expedition Dining!  I highly recommend visiting Hardanger Fjord, where you can take a boat to the newly opened Iris Restaurant - an oval shaped building in the middle of the fjord.  This 18 course menu will take you on a wild journey quite literally.
