• Oh Dubrovnik! You are everything they say you are and more! I had the most amazing day wandering the ancient streets with a terrific guide who grew up in the old city and continues to live there.The old town is the highlight and it is a living fairy tale. Perched on Croatia’s Southern tip it is half surrounded by the Adriatic, defined by thick medieval walls and nestled into Mt Srd in the North. It has Roman origins  from the 7th century. Starting to mix with Slavic tribes in the 10th century - with the walls starting construction in the 9th century and fortified against the Ottomans in the 14th. Dubrovnik was heavily bombed and damaged during Croatia’s fight for independence from Yugoslavia in the 90’s. The city resilient spirit shines through and there are memorials in the city to these dark times not so long ago.If you're up to take on the 1080 stairs along the city walls, the views are stunning – endless terracotta rooftops and the sparkling sea. And yeah, you might recognize the scenery from a little show called Game of Thrones!Lucky for us, the weather was perfect and the city wasn't too packed. We had the chance to explore the hidden corners and soak in the town's serene vibe. Tip: aim for off-peak hours to fully immerse yourself in the magic of this living monument.
