COUNTRIES VISITED:Ireland
PLACES VISITED:Dingle
SUGGESTED DURATION:1 Days
I traveled with my adult children and their families for 9 days around southern Ireland this Fall 2024. We landed in Dublin and enjoyed a great folk tales talk setting the tone for our visit to the Irish countryside. The next morning we picked up two cars to set off for west Ireland. We stayed in 4 short term rentals and a couple of hotels. Three of the short term rentals were 600+ year old castles that we had to ourselves. The castles were so much fun! Some were very rustic and one in particular was absolutely beautiful and luxurious. The medieval ambiance made the stays very special and memorable for everyone.
During the days, we filled them with lots of activities that gave the first time visitors a true and broad taste of Ireland. We visited some iconic sights like the Cliffs of Moher and the Killarney National Park, listened to live trad music in pubs, went horseback riding and hawking, visited a perfumery that specialized in using local ingredients and ate incredible food,

Cliffs of Moher
One day we visited the Cliffs of Moher. It had been over 30 years since my last visit and I was thrilled to see the park upgrades. There is a wonderful visitor center with several shops and a cafe. But the highlight is the actual museum portion included in your park entrance fee. It is interactive and well laid out, offering backgound on the area's geology, culture and history. There is a nice short film, and even a spot to take your own VR photo with a cliffs image of your choice that you can email to yourself.
After spending 20-30 minutes in the visitor center, we joined the many visitors walking the paved trails along the cliffs. At one point, you can continue further along the cliffs, but the paving ends and you will likely find a bit of mud with the plentiful rainfall in Ireland so wear good shoes. The views are absolutely beautiful and something you shouldn't miss
You can buy your tickets ahead of time, but we didn't find that necessary. You pay as you drive into the park.
