Years ago I moved to Madrid sight unseen, drawn to a country that had somehow eluded me despite growing up in Europe. The moment I stepped off the plane, Madrid felt like home, and that’s when my decades-long love affair with Spain began.

Spain is one of those places I can return to again and again and still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. From sun-soaked beaches to vibrant cities, charming villages, rolling vineyards, and centuries-old palaces, every corner tells its own story. Spain satisfies my wanderlust while constantly surprising me, and it’s exactly why I love creating immersive itineraries for clients.

I’ve planned unforgettable trips across Spain, including journeys through Andalusia that remain some of my favorites. Imagine wandering the winding alleys of the Albaicín in Granada, feeling the soul of flamenco in Seville, standing beneath the awe-inspiring Mezquita in Córdoba, and soaking up the Mediterranean energy of Málaga and the Costa del Sol. One of the most unforgettable experiences in southern Spain is watching the Andalusian horses dance at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez de la Frontera. The elegance, tradition, and artistry perfectly capture the spirit of Andalusia.

Madrid will always have my heart. I return to the flea market at El Rastro, shop in Salamanca, sip beer in Chueca while watching the city buzz around me, enjoy roast chicken and cider at the iconic Casa Mingo, and finish late nights with churros at Chocolatería San Ginés. Every single visit includes Picasso’s Guernica at the Reina Sofía.

When I lived in Madrid, each time I stood before it I discovered something new, a detail or emotion I hadn’t noticed before. That painting, much like Madrid itself, never stops revealing layers of itself to me.

Then there’s Barcelona, Spain’s artistic and rebellious wild child. Gaudí’s whimsical architecture, golden beaches, tapas-hopping in the Gothic Quarter, flamenco nights that light your soul on fire, and streets buzzing with creativity make it unlike anywhere else in Europe. Wandering Plaça de Catalunya, exploring the Joan Miró Foundation, and marveling at Park Güell always leave me inspired. Staying in neighborhoods like L’Eixample gives you the perfect mix of local charm and easy access to everything.

Beyond the big cities, Spain keeps unfolding. Cadaqués feels like stepping into a Dalí painting with its whitewashed houses and quiet beaches. Valencia is a feast for the senses with vibrant markets, fresh seafood, and unforgettable paella. Rioja Alavesa invites you to sip incredible wine surrounded by warm hospitality. Bilbao wows at the Guggenheim. Mallorca, Marbella, Tenerife, Gran Canaria. Every region has its own flavor, beauty, and rhythm.

What makes Spain unforgettable isn’t just the sights. It’s the feeling. Long lunches that stretch into sunset, bustling plazas filled with conversation, food and wine that celebrate tradition, and a culture that truly knows how to savor life. Spain isn’t just a place I visit. It’s a place that shaped me.
